Posted:Throughout the world of poi there walk a breed aside from other moves. Many have claimed that they don’t exist, or that they did, but that they died out with some long lost tribe of poi masters, and now they are “just legends”. But, they exist, and not just in the fairy tales we tell young poisters and poiettes to make then scared of the bogie poi that live under their beds.

The Jedi set are the most technical of the most technical moves.
The Jedi set are the poi swinging moves which defy the known laws of the physical world.
For everyone of them, at the moment only a handful are known, is utterly a Jedi move.

Until recently the easiest known move in the the jedi set was a 5 beat weave to reverse 5 beat weave behind the back, preferably done in the wall plane. And yet some exciting new discoveries uncovered using the latest state of the are technology in archeopoilogy. New additions have been threatening to join the ranks of the Jedi set, The Eight Council of Poi demi-gods are currently in congress to determine the place if any of these exciting new finds which include 2 air wraps within the Jedi set.

Not everything is known of the origins of the Jedi set. But it is much hinted in pagan folklaw, that in days of old back in martober two mysterious men, possibly of a tribe of orangeness denoted by their attire met in a misty field in Clay-pham a small village near Londinium. And lo, One of them who may have been the legendary Jedi Tony Touch spaketh unto the other, (the ugly stupid one with poor personal hygiene) who is, it is rumoured to be a distant forefather of the author. (alas the lineage has never been proven).

“That move is utterly Jedi.”

And to the sounds of trumpets from between the legs of a chorus of angels, the Jedi set was gently placed by a large crane amongst the meeting of poiers.
And the quest began...

That was many moons ago, and little remains to document what happened in that original quest...

Posted:Jkare sees the sparks of anger that the dark side has spread accross the thread and decides to try a new approach. Sitting down in the lotus position, he puts one palm in front of the heart chakra, and one turned up in his lap. He starts to chant "Nam moyho renge kyo," which is a prayer to the mystic law of cause and effect. Slowly lights start to circle around his body. The poi lights start to move more and more quickly. The light begins to blind the others in the room. The light get more and more intense. Looking around the room, all you see is the white of pure light. You can see little bits of flame curling in every direction. The stain of the dark side is receding into the crevices of the room, eroding into light.

After an hour of the light purifiying the thread, it begins to recede. As everyone's eyes adjust to the light, the thread is again pure, of Jedi force only. Do not be thwarted by the attempts of the Darkside to sabotoge our threat. Hold true.

Jkare stands up and begins a fire dance. He doesn't use the most complex moves, but he puts his heart into it. He does some turns that only his body can perform. He begins to lose himself to the moment. His poi spin faster and faster. They begin to control him. The poi begin to dance a moment for history. At this time, Jedi Jkare is at his best. He is performing moves that he has never even thought of. His heart swells to encompas his awareness. Trusting in his body not to burn itself. For an unknown period of time, the Jedi is singing. The drums follow his heartbeat. And he keeps singing, showing his soul, his heart, and his love for the world for everyone to see. As his poi begin to flutter, the fury of before settles into a dancing calm. The poi lilt around his body. The blue glow of the flame signals the end of the dance. One last fast twist of the wrist, and the poi are dark. The arena is ready for the next dancer.

This site is now holy. Love and compassion blossom here. Here we show each other our best. We show each other our best because we want them to teach us the things we would never concieve of doing. Communities flourish on interdependence. We do our best to show each other how much we love each other.

To me, Jedi is unconditional love. That means no conditions, no boundaries. Doesn't matter whether you like them or not. Still be the best version of you that you can be, for your own personal integrity.

Jedi Jkare bows to his Sangha and exits the collum of light that had surrounded him.

Hyperloop in front from a windmill and bring it behind head for it to unwrap. I'm not sure if this is exactly how he was doing it, but it does work. It flows really good in a combo (fountain or something)

He also showed me some bad ass buzzsaw isolation variations, and for some reason something clicked inside me, and I can do them now after only a little practice. I guess I just had to see them done to do it (same with btb weave) ....more practice and I'll have them down pat. if you do the isolation with only one poi during a buzzsaw, but keep them in the same time, it is a cool optical illusion....

from waistwrap or similar move do the hyperloop diagonally btb. eg...right hand bth and left hand btb.

Does that make sense?

I was trying out wraps from butterfly ww to weave ww and wrapped in the wrong place

Instead of wrapping the poi around a limb the wrap and unwrap on each other's strings/chains.

Hope that helps

santanatwo-with a wrap? or by just slowing down to poi to a stop and reversing the direction while in the midst of a btb weave? (i'm not sure if there's a name for that move) "airstall" maybe?

---------Acutually Santana no airstall or no wraps just straight into it with moving your lower body but slightly shifting your upper body (but very little) Is that JEDI?

Posted:Trunkz, how do you reverse the "poi direction" without a wrap or an airstall or turning your body 180 degrees. I can totally understand a 90 degree shift in the plane, but 180 degrees? I would love to understand what the "gooberflastendogen" you are talking about.

are you just talking about doing a btb weave from forward to reverse in he wall plane without moving your body? sort of similar to a back waist wrap weave on both sides?

I think this thread isnt to discussed basic moves, but all moves are JEDI so why not...

If you perfectly do turning with weave BTB then transition between forward or backward weave BTB without turnig is the same, but you turn only upper part of body. Its like side to side weave, but BTB.After traning you find to do BTB weave without any turn
Waistwraps? Wraps around waist?

are you talking about something like a waistwrap (check this out pk) but btb and replacing the carry and two beat weave with a continuous three or five beat?

if so it has been mentioned as the 'easy'(? !) jedi move at the beginning of this thread:

quote:Originally posted by glass:
5 beat weave to reverse 5 beat weave behind the back

and in the wall plane just to make it a bit harder.
if this is not what you are talking about you have us all very intrigued!

he's right all i do is change the position of the poi like a side weave but all still behind the back it's quite difficult but can be done me and my friend RaveShok are in the process of making a video so i can show you.................

you start off with a Forward btb weave turning it side ways to a reverse btb weave

Posted:not quite that simple... there is a difference behind the waistwrap and the move being described and that is the waistwrap has a so called carry... where as if you just do a 3 beat on either side forwards to reverse waistwrap style on the wall plane thats a different move this can be done as a five beat too. you can also hold the move on either side. i suggest viewing my video's in the not so jedi thread to see what i mean, theres a few different variations of waistwrap wall plane moves in the 2 video's more so in the aerotech video.

Posted:one of the main differences between the wall pane btb weave (without turning body) and the btb waist wrap....is in the way the arms cross eachother. In the btb waist wrap the "wraping arm" touches the body dirrectly. In the btb weave wall plane, the arm that is wraping around the back touches the same side arm and the same side arm touches the back. So...another way to say it is..

the back waist wrap keeps the arms seperated slightly. the btb weave causes the arms to touch and they start off crossed over eachother....

the hands start out exactly opposite configuration, you just have to see somebody do it from behind to realize it. They l;ook the same, and they are, but they aren't

Posted:exactly! nice one santanatwo - i had never realised the closest hand to the body thing.

another way to think of it is when you do a btb ww, the same hand leads all the way through the move whereas when you do three or five beat in the wall plane btb, the leading hand swaps depending on which side of your body you are on.

okay, no, seriously. i want to know if it is jedi BEFORE i post it. really. (don't you just love throwing gasoline on a forest fire? ) mostly because it is actually really easy. if you don't know, though, it will blow your mind. (do i have you quivering in anticipation yet?)

well, let me decribe it as if it were in front, just for simplicity. just transcribe it behind you for btb version. start doing forward weave. it helps at first if you do it with the planes at a bit of an v shape, not quite all perfect and parallel. or not. freeze hands so that the poi both continue spinning on their own side, but still in the v shape (let's call this the v for reference). next move the poi so the angle between the two planes opens up, until you are doing the froward butterfly. then do just one TTN crossover, either hand, and freeze it, so that you are now doing the reverse butterfly. now continue the same opening motion with your hands crossed, until you are doing the "v" again, but backwards. now, depending on which hand you did TTN, you go into the respective weave move. but now it is backwards. it is by will alone i set my mind in motion...

Posted:butterfly hyperloops

so last night i both worked out how to do these and also realised that they're never gonna be pretty or work properly. oh well.

the variations that santanatwo describes here are great and although i haven't attempted them, should work due to the fact that the poi heads never really pass each other while airwrapped.
what i am saying is in heneral, the whole principle of hyperloops doesn't lend itself well to poi going in opposite directions.

i've been doing buzzsawed butterfly hyperloops and as futile as explaining this may be i'll try and describe them...

start with a butterfly on the right side of your body (the left poi string leading which generally corresponds to your right hand being above the left).
as the left poi swings down from the top of the circle, guide it inside your right arm, crossing the strings in the process.
let both poi complete a whole beat inside your arms and then guide them outside your left arm.

the thing that confuses me is how they come out.
when the poi unwrap on my left side they swing out into a normal forwards butterfly - the same move as they were doing on the right beforehand?!!?? this shouldn't happen.
the only explanation is that something weird happens when the hyperloop is between the arms.

since the poi are travelling in opposite directions it is impossible to go into a neat hyperloop ie. if both poi are tight in the same plane then they will hit each other.
this means the poi *have* to be off-plane to continue spinning and i think somehow they twist in the middle of the move as a result of this.

anyone else had a go at these? they may be ugly, techy and ultimately useless but i had some great fun finding all this crap out
