Throughout the world of poi there walk a breed aside from other moves. Many have claimed that they don’t exist, or that they did, but that they died out with some long lost tribe of poi masters, and now they are “just legends”. But, they exist, and not just in the fairy tales we tell young poisters and poiettes to make then scared of the bogie poi that live under their beds.

The Jedi set are the most technical of the most technical moves.
The Jedi set are the poi swinging moves which defy the known laws of the physical world.
For everyone of them, at the moment only a handful are known, is utterly a Jedi move.

Until recently the easiest known move in the the jedi set was a 5 beat weave to reverse 5 beat weave behind the back, preferably done in the wall plane. And yet some exciting new discoveries uncovered using the latest state of the are technology in archeopoilogy. New additions have been threatening to join the ranks of the Jedi set, The Eight Council of Poi demi-gods are currently in congress to determine the place if any of these exciting new finds which include 2 air wraps within the Jedi set.

Not everything is known of the origins of the Jedi set. But it is much hinted in pagan folklaw, that in days of old back in martober two mysterious men, possibly of a tribe of orangeness denoted by their attire met in a misty field in Clay-pham a small village near Londinium. And lo, One of them who may have been the legendary Jedi Tony Touch spaketh unto the other, (the ugly stupid one with poor personal hygiene) who is, it is rumoured to be a distant forefather of the author. (alas the lineage has never been proven).

“That move is utterly Jedi.”

And to the sounds of trumpets from between the legs of a chorus of angels, the Jedi set was gently placed by a large crane amongst the meeting of poiers.
And the quest began...

That was many moons ago, and little remains to document what happened in that original quest...

One day I came uppon this thread: The Jedi Set

I was a young and inmature spinner, knowing nothing of the jedi ways. Enthralled I was in what was to become my obesission.

It started with a few video's i found in the forum section here. But I became obsessed, spending many house searching every known website and poi related activities.

In my research of poi video's, desperate forum searching, I picked up an adept student which I em very greatfull for. He learns faster then any I have see.

It was with great frustrations that I hit wall after wall with attempts at revealing just a portion of the jedi set to myself, that I realized I must use the force(?gravity?) to make such realizations....

After long hours of solitary study with only the gods of the green to inlighten me, a partial jedi set was recovered intact....

Finlly another part of the long lost jedi techniques have been revealed to the world....

-BTB 5 Beat Planar Weave Isolations

-BTB 5 Beat Reverse Weave Isolations

-Buzzsaw Isolations

-Anti-Spin Buzzsaw Isolations

-5 Beat Forward/Reverse Weave Isolations.

I hope this submission passes the scruitiny of the HOP masses. For video proof of a few of the jedi set, please visit www.youtube.com/kepki2003 and watch my newer videos.

More evidence is comming once the winter lets up and video can be taken.

antispin buzzsaw is isolated tongue

True but you can greatly increase the amount of isolation on an antispin. Normally your hands orbit the center of the antispin in a circular path and the poi heads pass by the center very close to each other.

In a deeply isolated antispin the path of your hands is more of a star shape and the poi heads no longer pass by each other in the center of the pattern, instead they pass by the opposite hand.

I don't have a video camera so I hope this diagram makes sense. (Inkscape rules!)

I'm outraged that the Jedi Set has been dismantled!! It was a great inspiration to me over the last few years. I REFUSE to accept that the jedi set is dead and forgotten about. Someone must be left to carry on the search! I will greatfully accept this burden of continuing research into the ways of the jedi!

I like the antispin diagrams, very interesting. But give the flowers 6 petals instead of 4 on the antispin iso's.... and you get something much neater.

What moves were once/still are considered jedi?

Isolations

Recently sighted on HOP Here

Imagine a buzzsaw, but instead of the poi around the outside and the hands at the middle, the hands and the poi are at the outside of the circle and everything spins around the middle of the poi, continuously. Some days they may be impossible. <img src=" title="" src="graemlins/ubblol.gif" />

Bugger that I'm going back to play with my video camera. back in a couple of weeks with another movie

Iso-whats? wink

Damn, was that really only 2002?

I'll never forget Drew at EJC that year premiering the most pathetic buzzsaw isolations to the draw dropping amazement of us all.

hug

I wonder if Jedi is no longer relevant because the move sets have diverged so much. You need too many hyphens if you're going to claim Jedi these days. As in "isolated-btb-goofy-flowers".

ubblol

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
[They do not move.]

See NYC's post.

Any sort of 'hard' poi stuff now isn't about a single move anyway, it's about taking old moves and constructing them in such a way that the patterns are more complex and/or better looking than before.

To do: More Firedrums 08 video?
Wildfire/US East coast fire footage
LA/EDC glow/fire footage
Fresno fire

Thanks for reminding me NYC, you know those pathetic (buzzsaw) isolations took nearly 2 years to work out, I remember I was soo happy one day when I managed to do 4 isolations in a row, WOW.

And a month or so later I even managed 11!

and then people like Coleman learnt them in a couple of months.

It seems like people pick them up a lot easier nowadays.... thats progress!

biggrin

impossible as a hyperloop to be a hyperloop has to be in a weave so has to be mobing otherwise its kinda airwrap i suppose and stalling it would make it non hyperloopish
