Why can I NOT for the LOVE of GOD get the basic weave down? I can do behind the back butterflies, corkscrews, windmills and all sorts of other advanced move but I just can't get the weave down. Any pointers?

wooden spoons!
yes!
wooden spoons, get em, hold em in ya little paws, and do your basic over under back over under back.... movement, until you get it!

its funny, it took me three weeks solid to learn the weave when i was just starting. So one day, in desperation i tried the wooden spoon trick. One afternoon of that, and it just clicked! `

Good luck with it, let me know how it turns out! xoxo

I saw someone teaching behind the back weave with juggling clubs, and wooden spoons are just an ultra easy/cheap version of those, so I'm gonna say yes

Now I have to go and buy to matching woodens spoons shops

*Oh, just for a minute,* my bed said.
"Don't lie to me," I grumbled.

Dude try this it worked for me,first yuo take your strings, wrap them around your hand till yo uhave aboot three or four inches between your hand and your glowstic, electroglo whatever.
now try the over under trick.simply get both going in the same direction but lateraly not verticaly, and when your right hand poi is over your left hand you left should be under your right, then vice versa. dunno if this will help but it did for me ,after yo udo this for several days you wil have the weave embedded in you. the movements should already feel natural to you when you start the weave now.

There are no obstacles only challenges.
Very funny scotty now beam down my pants.

I honestly think that the weave is the hardest single step that I've taken. If that's any consolation... Everything else is baby steps compared to that one.

I used regular tablespoons and they worked great.

Well, shall we go?

I don't go behind the back. But if I did, I'm sure it'd be harder.

Heck, I didn't even thread the needle til last week.

Yeah I agree, it's not as easy as it seems. The best tip I can give is to hold out your forearm a bit, and then with the other hand get the Over, then the Under going, before you go to the other side.

Like in the hop poi weave lessons.

Over- Under- Out.
