Music to spin to, Tell us your favourite music to dance to

Has anyone ever thought of making a "poiers" music album? A collection of music that's GREAT to poi to? What music would you put on it?

My favourite music..

I'll start it off with 'Bony Incus (the man with no name mix)', by Eat Static. What music would other people put on it?

Happy (rythmical) Swinging,

Tim

Anything with a psy-trance kick to it I get into... Have spun to anything really, breaks d&b and techno, and psy is probably the best I've found so for... I download 60-80min mp3 sets and burn them to cd so there's no pause between tracks...

(only listen on the walkman whilst practising, once lit I tend to enjoy the whooshing noise too much....!)

Forgot to say Crazy Town does a song called Butterfly...I do a routine with nothing but butterfly moves to this

I wanna see that. you still do it P? ubbrollsmile

Wow..now here's a shot of history. And if Cantus reads this, I am sure I can be persuaded to dust it off with for the right incentive wink

And I still spin to anything that moves me, and even some stuff, just for show purposes that doesn't.
Even country is spinnable wink

Though R&B, Jazz, and techno-arabic are my prime choices currently.

As long as your not being an egotistic freak with the art of poi its all good. By the way, there are plenty of waiata or song by Maori of Aotearoa which use poi actions to compliment their music so the concept of poi 'music' is not new.

But if your going to make a contemporary or modern type compilation to poi, go hard, its a primo idea but you should use ethics and think about the rythyms and actions, or moves involvd in the song. Try to make the music a journey for the twirler or dancer?

confused

No one said anything about ethics and origin. We are all very aware here about the rhythmic qualities of traditional Maori Poi.

This is about music we enjoy spinning to, contemporary or traditional.

Cantus, I am not being defensive, as I have nothing to defend.
I am confused as to the preachiness to the origins when it was not in question at all.

You've seen me defensive, and should know better. wink

hey, k i like spinning to a few different style, i love trancey stuff cos its fast and energetic, and totally understanding the Tool thing, theyre really good for fast and slow, and the heavy bits are great...i guess it depends what mood im in and how wasted i am, but to be honest ill spin to most things... totally at the same time drums are good. has anyone else just spun on the beach? its quite relaxing listening to the waves at the same time.... i dont know, i love doing that... but were trying to get a couple of beach parties with sound system and generators and stuff, which would be cool...

Although I've not been spinning for long, I tend to find myself practicing to the same six songs;

1. Dream Theater - As I Am
2. Metallica - Fuel
3. Muse - Fury
4. Nightwish - Slaying The Dreamer
5. Rammstein - Sonne
6. Joe Satriani - Raspberry Jam Delta-V

Firestarter is also a good one to spin to but I seem to gravitate towards those songs. Perhaps its because I'm a freak...

Nightwish - Over The Hills And Far Away (best song ever to twirl to)
Nightwish - Wish I had an Angel

I like to twirl to the metal like stuff, but not roaring death metal...Melodic metal with good beats.

Another Nightwish fan *jumps for joy*. Some of their stuff is brilliant to swing to. I learned 3bt weaves to the intro to Ghost Love Score. Melodic metal is so easy to swing to its unreal. That and some Joe Satriani stuff.

Just a Ride by Jem is pretty fitting, or Nasty Girl by Aniya Day if your a girl and spinning with fire or strobe. I tend to spin to Romanticide (Nightwish) no reason why other than its a great song, suitible for spinning or no :P

This is a brilliant piece of electro wieredness. Loads of tempo changes and bizzarre noises. Perfect for spinning to IMO.

the orb, or banco di gaia are cool to play to, i like music that feels like liquid and isn't too spikey.

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.
