This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

Got reverse TTN sorted properly the day after I worked out the butterfly weave, lol. got it at least partly isolated now too.

I've *finally* been able to do a 180 turn from BTB rev weave to BTB forward weave. I just can't turn back again yet arg. BTB forward wave is such a pain, it's so much more unnatural feeling than anything else I've done for some reason.. BTB weave turns are also the most exhausting (and painful!*) thing to practice i've found so far smile

(*clocked myself square on the nose for the first time, lol)

Yakumo, just you wait.

I'm finally starting to get the reverse five-beat weave. I'll be able to get it for two minutes, then it'll fall apart on me. But the getting it for the two minutes is a great improvement.

lot's of thread the needle tricks. split time TTN (weeks ago) reverse split time TTN (more recently) and I've been learning to throw isolations into them. so ummm.... isolated split time thread the needle weave?

I'll get there too late if I shorten my stride, I'll get there too soon if I find me a ride, I'll never move forward if I try to hide this path that I've troden one step at a time.

yeah, corscrew in the HoP lessons is wide appart, take that , do it with your hands clost together all the time, as she does when she does it in front of her, and you're basically doing a horizontal 3 beat weave.

next add 2 beats smile

hey, not many posts by me but I'm practicing hard.

I've got the butterfly and alternate b.fly and reverse b.fly down. a hesitant mexican wave is being worked on, and now I'm working on the the turns and follow the sun. not easy. but getting there.

Poi are such fun!

In hyperlights video of testing the mark2's the guy uses an air stall, throing them up in the middle, straight above his head, from coming in from a reverse butterfly, then yank them down and back round.

loved it, tried it last night got it working straight off, jsut need to tidy it up a bit (pull down faster is all that's needed I think)

I've an urge to call it a 'depth charge', 'dropplet' would nearly suit it perfectly but it't not big enough smile, does it have a name? smile

yakumo - its some kind of inverted stall.

If you do them spinning same direction one goes up and one goes down - they meet in the middle - it looks cooooool biggrin

Nailed antispin buzzsaw flowers the other day. biggrin My normal buzzsaw flowers are still pretty poor though.
And Ive been wibbling a bit as well as getting a couple of stands.
Also been playing with lockout and longarm stuff. One day I will manage to do a flower with one arm and a flat long arm with the other (from a side view it would be a flower in a big circle).

Had a bit of obsurd flailing with Tobi at the weekend trying to work out straight jackets. Failed miserably and nearly ended up with facial bruising frown

I just learned butterfly!

Only my second day out with my poi too.

I can't seem to comprehend any other move yet. I tangle strings on 3 beat weave and take out my kneecaps/head on low turn.

Any tips?

If at first you don't succeed throw a temper tantrum.

Well, I can't do it properly yet... But tonight I nailed my first 6bt weave...

Interestingly enough, it was somehow the 4beat reverse weave I learned earlier tonight which led to me understanding the 6bt weave... Wicked... Well I think it was anyways.

Now I only need to do 5bt reverse weave... And try to make sure I know 6bt weave for sure, then I will tackle 7bt weave... Altho, I don't like the weaving beyond 5... It's to much hassle. to little freedome I think.

Also smoothed out my 5bt corkscrew alot =))

I've tackled overhead ttn, crossers, normal wallplanes, corkscrews and this move I made up, which I call an arc - starting in behind the head butterfly, into overhead butterfly then down into normal butterfly. Does that move have a proper name?

I've managed a very shaky reverse weave as well.

ummmm, I got a rather cool inverted semi inside buzzsaw thing.

I go from an inverted buzzsaw, taken to one side then I turn 90 degrees and bring the buzzsaw inside my left arm, in front of my right arm, then I flip it so it's inside my right arm, in front of my left arm...

Does that make any sense?

it's like the horizontal buzzsaw combination, but inverted, vertical and half inside... :P

No, just the plain old backwards weave!
I can sort-of do it, just not very well. Yet.

Actually, I struggle with doing anything backwards for some reason.

Just practice doing a 3 beat forward weave, throw in a lap of a 5 beat weave. if you only do one side, you wind up switching hands that is leading, so try to do both sides of the body with a 5 beat. if you lead with your right hand, i suggest practicing leading with left hand before attempting. otherwise you will probably get hit. a lot. but it starts to look really cool if you can do a 3 beat weave, switch in a set of 5 beat, and then go back to 3 beat.

I saw you doing the up/down stall thing at Play before seeing your post on it here Seye smile

I sure wouldn't like to be trying to learn straight jackets, fake or otherwise, with those aerotech poi you made...

@Play I learnt :

antispin weave fw and bw,
a suicide,
after much practice on my own finally started getting btb 3 beat weave turns from btb fw to btb bw so I can go both ways now.
Various stalls
Giant windmills
Isolated 3 beat weaves
The 'run round the field screaming with your burning poi streaming behind you' (Late for a Play fire show special) biggrin
Alternate butterfly

stuff to work on (I know how now, just need more practice) :
btb waist wraps,
whip catches,
air wraps
hyperloops
5 beat isolated weave (I think),
club swingers nightmare &
some of bluecats other insaine tricks I can't remember the names of smile

so happy with my new sock poi, ta Jazza smile

oh, and 9 section whip & rope dart but that's not poi wink
