This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

here a pat on the back in advance from me

I just learned the forwards 3 beat weave behind the back. It had been frustrating me for days! grin Now I'm working on hyper loops and getting my flowers to look better.

Question everything.

finally got BTB weave! notice that I didn't say "finally got BTB weave down!" because it's nowhere near down... still very iffy. but nonetheless, I can do it. now it's just a matter of practice, practice, practice (and hitting myself, hitting myself, hitting myself).

Hey, Im pretty new to poi, when I go camping I like to tie up some glow sticks and play around, mostly just a 2 beat weave. but I was just given a set of fire poi from this site. So now my interest has sky rocketed. within the last few days Iv managed to learn the 3 beat weave, one day (took a wile). next day I managed to learn it in reverse and that was even harder. and a few transitions and turns. Iv hit myself many many times but still fun.

Welcome!

You will find that the process is largely the same, so whatever got you doing the inward butterfly will (should) work for the outward one.

I've almost got a buzzsaw fountain down grin It's still wonky, but it's coming right grin

Also, learning chasers... if I can get my up-stalls (no idea what they're called) right then it will be just about perfect grin

Oh! And I have the trichetra down, just need the piece that goes on the outside. None of this makes much sense, does it... Hmmm...

buzzsaw fountain is tricky indeed. good job! now do the antispin buzzsaw fountain tongue2

chasers are definitely a mindf-ck at first... mostly since they require an entirely new method of movement (i.e. letting the poi trail behind your hand at a 90 degree angle). good luck!

Haha! Finally gotten some horizontal stacking patterns.

Also, some stall-switch variations, so the one does not have to hang uselessly. Bwahahahaha!

Yay horizontal stacks! Prepare to overuse them (if you're anything like me)!

I've been playing around with the Maiki Nope/Dave Statik style flower stack things a lot recently, and finally found some good transitions into other stacks.

Ok so I didnt learn a new move, but I did do my first fire spin. And Yes I was not ready. It was a load of fun, after the first spin I was amped up and decided to wait a bit and do it again. well second time around after a min I got cocky and tryed a transition im not really good at. needless to say I messed up and managed to wrap the poi around my hand and burnt myself. Good news only second degree, and I did not loss my drive to practice poi. If anything It showed me how much I need to practice. Lesson to all. when you spin only do moves you know your really really good at. I know I learned my leson

its awesome to hear that youve learned that much so soon honestly i learned the butterfly and a 1 and 2 beat in my first 2 weeks. if u dont mind i was wondering if u have the split time or off beat thread the needle up and down yet? they r both very fun but a little mor complex then the normal. as well as a spiral wrap? if u dont know them i would recomend them they r both fun moves. hope u have fun with yur spinning life i dont know much only been at this for 5 months but i know enough to help so if u have any questions i will help if i can.

week 3! and i've picked up:
orbitals
hyper loops
buzz saw
wall plane flowers
3 layer cake
inner buzz saw flowers
AND
splits, left, right, forward, and reverse.
I looked into trying the offbeat thread the needle and that sounds hard but i'll see what i can to, i'm lovin this alot and i'll probably need somthing new to learn anyways.
