This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

here a pat on the back in advance from me

4 beat weave. Almost got the hang of the 5 beat as well but I can only do two trips before wacking myself (for me to consider that I learned a move I gotta be able to do it for a good 5 min).

Today I've learned btb weave, almost finished with btb butterfly and clarified my troubles with overhead weave. Ah, and also I've improved the reverse weave finally. It's okay for a week of practicing, I hope:)

Just learned some combination of forward weave with buzzsaw, wraps in weaves and i don't know how this one is called exactly but its a hyperloop in a weave, but I still need to work in it some more doesn't look that well yet.

But again i felt so good i've learned those things just by believing i can do them and practicing for an hour smile , and the new way to hold my sock poi has certainly something to do with it i think.

I've just discovered the wonders of Poi - so I decided to make some for myself: a bag of rice in a sock with a white hanky as a "tail" with two bootlaces as the strings.

Anyway, I've been practicing for a couple of hours now, and I think I've got the 3 beat weave going now! It's really messy, so maybe you guys could give me some tips on how to improve it?

I really wanted to be able to weave before I started to refine anything, so that I actually had something to refine :P

Anyway - here's the video (edited to the point just before I cane myself in the back of the head with both poi :P).

Thanks,

CC

Casey...

I'm reasonably new myself... just a week and a half of experience...

But to clean it up you need to start thinking about your planes... that is that every time you swing it, it should be essentially parallel to wherever else you've spun it... Thats it in its most basic state... clearly its more complicated than that, but I've just not got the words right now.

Try learning a few other tricks to help clean it up, too. Try butterfly and once you have that, angel wings. Your weave will become cleaner after that, you'll start to learn more about where your poi are going and all that. Your wrists will end up coming in closer, not because you're better at it, but because its what takes less effort. Just keep practicing. I personally bought testicular protection and just kept trying slowly, no matter how it punished my body.

And "Woo! I just cracked the 5 beat weave... sort of.. I can do it on the right side and the left, but not yet each of them consecutively." smile

hug

Not really moves, more lessons.
1. I <3 spinning fire(got to do so twice over the weekend)
2. Just because you can do a move with each hand by itself doesn't mean both hands will understand what to do when put together. 3 beat reverse has given me a hell of a shiner.
