This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

here a pat on the back in advance from me

Sure I suck at poi.
This week I got them out again after too long.

I finally managed Thread the Needle (FINALLY!), butterfly behind my back, over head butterfly and a very scrapy mexican wave.
Plus I cleaned up my 3 beat weaves in both directions and turning between them.

So it's been a very good weekend, but now I'm covered in soot so off to hit the shower!

6B TTN crosser

Basic move is split time 6B Thread the needle in the front. The diffrence is that the "side" parts are wheel plane cross-overs, with one hand BTB and one front with hands crossed. Other difference is that its not so static so I move my shoulders and hips, where the legs stay same position.

(Bluecat is doing this on spinnach, it looks fore a while like when both hand are BTB, ie crosser.)

I can send the timing of spinnach if somebody want.

hook it up. i loves some spinach. biggrin

spinning last night --
i finally got the "longarm" crap down where you put one low WW and one high BTH and make flower turns. biggrin i tried it weave and butterfly and liked it better butterfly by far. then i wanted to try tangling them, which i got eventually going along the plane of the shoulders on both sides (bth/btb bfly tangle turns?? HOTT). then i wanted to bicep wrap them, which worked to a degree. then i wanted to tangle/wrap them, which didn't work well at all, so i started learning to tangle/wrap BTB instead. ;D

then i got distracted by girls. stupid Spring!

I had developed this combination a bit ago, then forgot how to do it, then re-figured it out yesterday smile

Starts with a forward butterfly to a stally catch on the opposite wrists so the chains overlap, then twists off into a horizontal tangle, then untangles into a corkscrew.

Name of the combination: wristburner eek

Don't quote me on that, I don't name moves.. rolleyes

but you do name combos it seems - how bizarre wink

redface i learnt some things i should already know how to do redface

- turning with same direction hip/shoulder reels

- improved my timing on same direction hip reels (but it is *far* from fixed)

- played with mixing up hip and shoulder reels but got confused by stretched out circles so instead...

- i ended up learning a lovely clean backwards maxi plus original flavour hyperloop - right to left that is biggrin

i also learnt that my antispin weave (reverse poi) seems to want to work better if i point my hands upwards - the timing of the top crossovers make loads more sense in that arm position smile

At long last I cracked the forwards btb weave! Can turn 180 to reverse, but don't have the full 360 yet.

Also have gotten:

Split-direction weave
clockwise waistwrap
butterfly waistwrap

I'm pretty stoked. biggrin

taken out of context i must seem so strange

Thanks to Oli a Forwards "Not-Colman 5" (Why is it called that?)

After getting forwards I thought OK now backwards and then realised I can't do reverse 5Beat Weave redface

Makes sense seeing as how antispin is sort of "upside-down" compared to a normal weave.

Got some long arm/WW BTB combinations going the other day at Spitz.

its not (well, not exactly wink )...

its called the 'notcoleman5' cos that's what rob called it after i showed him it smile

the name before that was 'wrists-not-tocuhing 5bt weave with a crossarm buzzsaw beat' and that was clearly a rubbish name.

i came across the move when the only inverted/inside stuff we knew of were buzzsaws and watermills - we didn't have any good ways of describing it yet smile

the crossarm buzzsaw beat in it led to lots of lovely things and the more fundamental version (the 'notcoleman3') caused lots of confusion when we first began discussing 'buzzsaw weaves'.

i will love rob forever for (not)naming a move after me biggrin hug

The reverse 5-beat weave is officially mine. =)
Now I just need to link it to a 5-beat and a BTB 5-beat and I too can be a Jedi... =)
