This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

here a pat on the back in advance from me

But Thanks to Eccles, I can finally do Butterfloops!

I've been trying to get these ever since I could do any form of tangle...

I like that name for them because it does sound a bit silly...

yay... an i didn't even have to show you! smile

right i'm posting this cos it's the only move i've remembered that i've 'learnt' in ages and it sounds silly and makes it look like i'm keeping abreast (where? do you have any photos?) of this rapidly forward moving new move scenario so... yesterday i learnt:

-a backards wrong weave (trailing poi comes inside as you move across your body) which felt great and looked wierd to me but apparently looks just like a normal weave to someone watching it on fire... also been tryng to turn between b/w and f/w versions. you get a weird non barrel roll type motion going on if you do one right after t'other... biggrin

edit: rovo's last post just reminded me of another idea i was playing with with (?) oli t'other day, butterfly buzzsaw fountains. means one poi goes spin, t'other poi goes antispin. hard to do the above the head transition though... wow.. two moves remembered in one day, they're like buses... tongue

I've just been playing with Poi and Body popping together...

Body waves work really nicely with a few stalls...

Now to get my body to do the waves to correspond with the switching from normal to antispin...

I finally managed to do reverse buzzsaw and (awfully) what I think is a reverse buzzsaw weave. Also, finally got the butterfly buzzsaw, though can't do much with it yet. Working on what I THINK are waist wraps, and cleaning up my horizontal buzzsaws.

Man, I need to find someone who can help me name stuff. I'll find them, I'm sure.

Have fun,

Jazz

P.S. Dude, I feel so n00b next to the hardcore funksters above.

Moves are moves are moves.. there are no moves, only flow... that being said, I guess I'll join in with what I'm playin with these days..

waist wrap (suck at it, need to be more limber)
infinite verticle hyperloop with chains and fire
infinite horizontal hyperloop (strill tryin to solidify the release)
wraps with fire (got over my fear of fuel transfer last week)
throws with chains and fire.. tryin to transfer the fun I had with socks
antispin weave forward and reverse and transtion between the two

sleep.. I still gotta figure out how to sleep, I keep forgetting..

ubblol you have no idea how many times this has been said in here (or maybe you do!).... i'm sorta with you on it but more to the point is that i usually don't consider having learnt a new move nowadays until i've got it solid and by then it's no longer a new move so i forget about posting it...
rolleyes
an garth, thanks, but why the hell would it be BHB? Behind His/Her Back? Behind Head Back? Big Hairy Bumhole? umm Surely BTB is for Behind The Back and BTH is Behind The Head... not that it matters. All names are names are names. There are no names only circles... wink

I've achieved nothing except realising my antispin flowers are beyond terrible and getting the last isolation in the isolated weave!

Inversions are still waaaaayyyyy to complicated for me to understand (I can do a barrel roll I think, but that's it), and i don't know enough things to do in atoms, so I'm just gonna mess around with anti spin and makng everything far smoother.

Spin, bounce, be one with the world, because it is yours to enjoy...

just a minute ago:

some crappy turning WW antispin stuff that i don't quite understand.

little embarrassed with all the cool stuff being mastered here, but i finally got the buzzsaw down f and b, messed with the planes a little but my left hand is too weak to keep it parallel with the ground
i ran into a problem though...i think my *chest* is too big and it's hard to get a decent length poi without hitting it
oooh the tribulations of life-why why must i be cursed with such a chest wink

A CURSE?

Surely not!! wink

I know several spinners with the same problem... They've learned to use it to their advantage, though. And rather well, I might add...

I've found a way to twist straight from foreward split-swinging to backwards behind-the-back weave. And then I promptly stopped smacking myself when doing a foreward btb weave.

rawr! get those puppies locked down or they just get in the way! just make sure it's not too sexy or you won't get much poi practicing done. wink

oh, and i finally kind of accidentally learned the infinite hyperloop principles... you just pull straight toward the hands, back and forth??! i had been trying mostly isolation-ish movements to keep them going, which didn't work very well at all! "pull toward the hands" was really all the trick it took. haha. now to clean it up i guess?
