This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

here a pat on the back in advance from me

constant smooth clean isolations are very very difficult

isolations are different to other familys of moves. a lot of things once you understand them and practise them a bit, they are nailed.

but i've found isolations require constant work to keep them tight.

Haha, you'll get very accustomed to that feeling! Learning a new poi move is 99% "That's friggin' impossible!" and 1% "Oh... now I see..."

I've been doing poi for all of about two days now (my current poi are socks although I have a set of kevlar poi coming), so I'm tickled pink with myself that I figured out the reverse 3 beat weave in a few hours! Basically for me it came down to doing about three or four spins of the forward 3-beat, then stopping and going over my pattern and letting my body just follow through with the pattern it already knows (albeit in the backwards direction). Now I'm working on getting into the pattern directly.

Next will probably be trying to figure out how to turn my body while spinning poi (hell of a lot harder than it looks!). For now, though, I'm pleased with myself. biggrin

ETA: Woohoo!!! Now I know the 5-bt and reverse!! (not BTB tho, that's for later. Seriously.)

Yo yo yo!

I dunno if this is really a beginner move but I wanted to show off coz it took me a while to learn.

One handed butterfly 'flying' around in a flower. Gotta say it's mighty difficult to learn how to do that with chains.

gubster: Nice going, next thing I would suggest is to clean up what you can do, then learn it all backwards.

Jaque: Sounds cool.

Thanks for interest mate. Im not even sure if its already been done or weather its so easy that noones bothered but i was happy that i did it anyway.

Ill stop tallkin crap now and tell u what it was.

Get both poi spinnin either side of you at the same time(like before your gonna go into a butterfly) then cross both hands over your body bringin the poi opposite sides then bring them back again.

Very simple and not really visually impressive but hey its another to say i can do biggrin

Sorry to say it is the latter.

At least if I understand you right, it is the move that pretty much everyone given a pair of poi and told "here, spin these" tries first.

Once you get comfortable you can slide into a butterfly from it in a "sneaky" way. And it is a good way to start teaching 3bt weaves.

Keep exploring though, you never know when someone with a new perspective may stumble across something that no one has thought of.

And you are making good progress, keep it up. smile

Forward and rev three beat btb. Now to work on turning the damned things....

Progress is made on flowers and releases. Even some catches. smile

Will need to modify my poi if I want to do those with fire though.

Three beat f***ing weave! I can finally do it. So happy now. Took me ages. First had to learn 2 beat with both hands on top. Then break it down in the 3 beat.. and suddenly it popped and I did it. *happy*

Edit: And most of it thanks to NathanielEverist! Yay. Thanks mate.
