has anyone been there before?
I went there last night, I was amazed- I'd never heard of it before until yesterday.
big blokes picking up massive 30lb barrels filled with tar- on fire!!!
they would spin them above their head, and then charge straight into the crowd.

It was brilliant!!!

all I could think was- I want a go!!!

We then went and spun some fire round a huge bonfire and then... everyone came up to us, borrowed our toys and used up all our parraffin
oh well, it was worth it!

so up for it again next year if im still in england!

several people did seem to get badly hurt- there were ambulances everywhere and i saw several of the people who carried the barrells being carried to the ambulances...
I presume heat exhaustion/inhaling too much tar, that stuff was giving off huge amounts of black smoke, which can't be good.
I heard today from someone that it has actually been banned in several places cos its so dangerous!

when i was at Exeter university i went to Ottery St MAry one year for that event and saw the flaming tar barrels. they were fantastic and getting crushed in the crowd is all part of the experience.

Sometime in the future i really hope i can go again.

think so- did he have quite short dark hair and could do five-beat weaves, single handed 3-beat and stuff (but not simple windmill/corkscrew!)?
if it was- nice guy.
