I just wanted to mention that I think it's soooooo cool that the name for an experianced fire dancer is "Jedi". That's just wicked awsome! Being able to tell my friends that "well, I'm Jedi" (in due time, when it's true of course) ((giggle)) but I do have a few curiousity questions:

is anyone jedi? or just poi users?is it "I'm A Jedi" or just "I'm Jedi"?

But I don't want to go among mad people, Alice remarked.

To put it in the simplest of terms...

"Jedi" was a term that a bunch of experienced fire spinners started tossing around as a joke over really complex moves, which then became a huge clash of egos over what techniques could be considered "Jedi" enough to be included in their little repertoire, which (as Yoda would say) led to anger, hate, and suffering

Myself... I've been around long enough to be considered "Jedi" by some... but I'm just a fire dancer, always with new tricks to learn, same as you. Even though I'm a teacher I'm always gonna be a student, and will always consider you an equal no matter if your member number is 1 (well, maybe Seven is NOT my equal...) or 10,000, if you can only spin a jump rope or can blow away an audience with tricks.

Not to steal your fire my friend, but I think it sounds just as cool to say you're a Fire Dancer and leave it at that. "Jedi" doesn't really mean anything.

You shouldn't feel inferior to SEVEN.

hehe I always saw it as a piss take on the fact that the dicussions were sooo technical, and the relation between star-wars lovers and, well, nerds. Not trying to step on toes or anything. Always thought it was quite funny for that reason

Not feeling too inferior, but Seven does certainly have my respect and admiration.

I mean... how can I compare to the HoP Kitty? There's just no way!

lol,

I dont think anyone would call themselves 'jedi' (unless thier really conceated) its a compliment (maybe) to call someone else that, but as Mot says, its really just a comedy name, one for the NerdsOfPoi.

is it "I'm A Jedi" or just "I'm Jedi"?
Either. Its like being Christian or being a Christian. Although technically you should say "i'm a Jedi Knight".

And its not just spinners who are Jedi. In fact, including myself, 0.7% of the UK poulation are Jedi. or is that Jedis

The Jedi Set thread is still going along quite happily, despite nearly falling to the dark side in the distant past, and is probably the best place to go look if you want to go find something really stupidly difficult that you didn't even know you wanted to do.

The man mainly responsible for the association of crazy spinning moves with the word 'jedi' is the elusive Tony Touch (inventor of such jedi manuevers as the eyewhip)

"Switching between different kinds of chuu chuu sometimes gives this "urgh wtf?" effect because it's giving people the phi phenomenon."
