Just bought a pair of beaming poi because I really need some that light up as I do most of my stuff at night due to working in the day.

Read all the warnings and promptly ignored them, but I was just wondering - just how battered am I going to get?? I'm kind of intermediate so maybe I shouldn't have them yet but they look so cool I had to have em!

Anyone that's got them wanna share their experiences?

I have heard of people knocking themselves out with those things. So I guess you can mess yourself up pretty good... so I wish you luck.

I've conked myself pretty good with them.

Slightly off topic, but here in south africa they make an excellent little product called glo-toobs. Check out www.glo-toob.com. they are bright, come in 4 colors, compact, a good weight, just about indestructable, and in almost all respects perfect for spinning. The only complaints I have about them is the small diameter of the hole to hang them from and the fact that they can give you quite a knock if they happen to catch you square on a bone. I wrap them with bubble wrap to avoid the latter.

don't have a set myself but i have spun with them and knocked myself a few times. i bought my ex a pair and i can tell u he's hurt himself pretty bad with them a number of times. he's knocked his labret twice, right square in the middle of his chin/lip and shattered the ball (he was lucky he didn't knock his teeth out, although i think they did loosen). he also hit his knee really hard twice in one night and we think chipped his kneecap or something cause it swelled up about the size of a tennis ball and he couldn't walk or drive (he drives stick) for awhile.

so good luck with it! they are fun, just hurt a hell of a lot when u hit yourself!

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

Beamers are great, though don't try to learn any new moves with them.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

Oh, jeeze, now I'm terrified of my beamers that are arriving in the mail...

... well, no, not really. I'm pretty excited, actually. Can't wait to try 'em out for the first time... You know; get my first bruise... break my nose for the first time.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

don't be afraid of em.....ok maybe u should, but hey that's part of the fun when i first started out i was spinning with glosticks on strings, and even with those i've racked up a number of injuries (broken thumbs, permanent bruises, black eyes, concussions). u get used to it! and it makes u respect the art even more!

broken thumb came from repeatedly hitting the top of my thumb until i got a hairline fracture.

concussion came from just a bad attempt at learning a move and hitting my temple with the top of the stick REALLY HARD

u can ask casper.....he was there. he heard it from across the backyard!!

Even glowsticks can be dangerous - I once split open the skin next to my right eye (about 1 cm gash) with glowsticks. Other lighter-weight (than beamers) LED sticks made the knuckle on my right ring finger swell up to twice the size for about 2 weeks once.

Speed kills!

Frankly, I tend to think a well made set of wicks is safer than LED poi. But then, I tend to be a bit more intoxicated when I really go off with the LEDs than with the fire!

I've got Beamers and although I've never smacked myself hard my mate picked them up for a spin and clocked himself a good'un right on the chin. He is now too scared to use them again. p*ssy!

I think trying to avoid pain is a really good way of improving your technique...!!!! No seriously, try and go slower with them at first till you get used to the weight etc, you'll soon be having lots of fun :-)

I had my first Beamers experience last night!

For some reason they seemed to be attracted to shins and kneecaps! Is this usual??

But anyway - despite being warned about how much they hurt, nothing really prepares you for a good smack!!

All in the name of fun!!!???

I will however, still be purchasing a set as soon as finances (credit card) allow, purely cos they feel great to spin with!

My state of mind is not yours to define!

Beamers are cool but it's not possible to unstate the pain . Pierced my chin with a screw tooth and a beamer once.

Only thing about them is that they're like horses. They can smell fear. If they know you're afraid they'll try pick up an easy meal...

I live in a world of infinite possibilities.
