Hi y'all, just noticed in the "...and i've been spinning for.." Mechhead, is a fellow Diver. I know that Cole is too, who else out there is a Diver?

Anyone fancy arranging a HOP Scuba trip of some sort?

Havn't done a dive in ages and wouldn't mind one soon, just thought i'd pumb the depths of HOP, at it were and see what the consensus is.

I could find out about possible pool sessions at the Spectrum in Guildford (where my diving club does it).

Don't mind where we go, I have a drysuit (rental places don't have my size so I had to buy one... grrrrr).

I've decided to get re-certified through NAUI sometime this year, so hey, I'm up for the trip once that's taken care of. Have a friend who'd be in on it, too.

It sure would be nice to dive there, but it does not appear one could get there in a timely fashion or for a decent price from Houston frown

Maybe one day...I just got back from my first taste of Africa and loved it.

Woohoo! I've started open-water diving.....

This weekend (28th and 29th of feb) I spent diving at Stoney Cove, up near Leicester. There was ice in our masks and snow falling and we went in. It was great. ubbtickled

I sneaked up on a sleeping fish and poked it; causing it to swim away at light speed- muahaha! ubbangel Lots of pike at stoney... fingers tucked firmly in! eek

Next time I want to sneak up underneath a duck.... ubbidea

Oh yes. Wouldn't have gone in without. The only people in wetsuits were nutcases and the poor PADI divers that can't take their dry suit course till they've qualified in open water....brrrr eek

I've not done dry suit training yet. Mind you, in Texas, there's not that much cause for a dry suit. I have gone diving in Puget sound up in Washington State, and wished I had on a dry suit then.

though...I'm considering selling my gear since I've not been diving recently. I have a nice brand new bc too...

so what's the difference between a wet suit and a dry suit?

a wet suit lets water in and holds it against the body, a dry suit doesn't let anything in. if i understand it right. though i'm sure that's over simplifying smile

a wet suit absorbs water, and uses water and your body heat as insulation along with neoprene.

A dry suit, you stay dry beneath it. There are water tight seals at each limb and neck, and no water gets into it., so no water against most of your skin.

Someone else may have a more technical description, but that's a basic ....very bad explination. ubblol

Pretty much the difference smile

Mine is a membrane suit... a big, vaguely me-shaped waterproof bag, with tight seals at the wrist and neck, under which I can wear as many warm layers as I like biggrin

Haaa Haaa! I'm still debating. If I got ththe price I paid for it, I'd probably be willing to part with it.

It's a debate, though.

I *do* have another bc that I bought used. It's in good shape, except for one elastic strap's gone on it. I bought it for $75.00 from my dive shop. It was a training BC, and it is a good, overall basic BC. I bet I could break even on that one without a doubt...
