Oooh, sparkle poi!

I'm not sure about the exact method, but someone told me that you use steel wool instead of kevlar wicks. Sounds a bit dangerous to me, but I don't have the experience/knowledge necessary to comment further. However, HoP has come to the resque with a page of their own! Click on the link!

Pretty though!

I've heard you use steel wool too-not sure what size is the best though. It's a lot more risky than just fire poi in my opinion...with the whole flying sparks and everything. Gives off a cool effect but be very cautious.

This is NOT a steel wool... that's the problem!

could be charcoal...

steel wool (<- note the link) can be quite dangerous... not advising it... also charcoal requires a lot of caution, special prop and prep

Hmmmmm not sure but the way it falls suggests a powder to me... It sure doesn't look like wire wool (steel wool).

Charcoal? How would that work then?

'We're all mad here. I'm mad, you're mad." [said the Cat.]
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here."

There's a special firepowder on the market, made from some mushroom or something, can't recall the name.

Probably when you add some fireresistant dispensers to your poi you could get the sparkly stuff as your trail leaves the dispended power to burn, it would also explain the biger flames at the stalls, more powder jerking free from the container.

What is life, without a little risk!

I reckon aluminium powder would make a similar effect!

Ah, glad to see they've embraced the spirit of poi >_<

The existance of flamethrowers says that someone, somewhere, at sometime said "I need to set that thing on fire, but it's too far away."

Because that's how poi gets crazy. You see someone doing something crazy and post it on the internet and then 3 months later its the new trendy move.

Be honest, who here is buying swivels and bulk and learning uber loops, lol

Don't mind me, just passing through.

My other half says he used to do this and used excess turpentine or white spirits so it sprays and also put it on the floor, thats why it ignites more when it touches the floor and sprays off smile

definitely no splashes of "TERPENTINE" eek

and will you never use terpentine (as in "paint thinner") for playing fire spank wink

Hoewever, excess fluid will never look like sparks, more like wobbles...

1) protectionism has never worked (long enough)
2) these "mushroom spores" wouldn't spark off
3) it's most likely charcoal - if it is some "chemical powder", most likely you don't want to inhale the fumes and certainly don't want to get hit by a spark
3.1) you know these sparklers for x-mas or new years? one could grind them, or mount large ones on poi for example... then again it's not an easy way to do it.
4) just do a Durbs for "charcoal poi"... it's basically red hot glowing charcoal mounted in cages, spun around... not a big deal at all, same effect

if you put them in a basket ...then how do they not all just tip out on the floor? they must have some cover i'd love to see what they use with out the charcoal, i need to make me some. i will be experimenting see what i can come up with. not using powder just charcoal for fuel. if anyone knows how to make these the safest you can save me some time.
