is that a new one, or did I see some text superimposed on a certain instruments entry?

Have not looked at the rules, sorry, but is there one about submitting said video with music that you have the rights to use?

I think it would go a long way towards improving the overall quality if the videos were strongly related to their music and there was no cheesy techno electronic stuff overlayed...( dont mean to insult anyone, but I do hate that stuff! It does not seem to go with anything!)

On this years compliation the ones that had their own tunes really stood out.

Just an idea, but hope someone has already made it a rule!

Suggestions on how to make a better video

Try also

1. not using"auto focus"
2. using a tripod
3. multiple camera angles
4. having some extra light so we can see you
5. filming in a nice location
6. dressing up

* The use of a tripod often makes a dramatic impact in the quality of the final movie. If you plan to move the camera during filming, you should move it very slowly and as smooth as you can. A jerking camera motion is hard to compress.
* Avoid hand-held shooting if possible. If your camera has an image-stabilization option you should turn this function on. Generally using this feature will reduce subtle changes between frames from camera motion.
* If you do not own a tripod, hold or rest the camera against the back of a chair.
* If filming fire at night you will find it better using "manual focus". This is because "auto focus" will have difficulty working out what to focus on and will make fuzzy what you want to be clear.
* Make sure you have other sources of light so that we can see you.
* If you mess up during filming. Cut the mistake out and move the camera to a new angle. That way we can not tell if a cut was made to change angle of the filming or because you cut out the part where you wrapped the poi around your legs and fall over. This is a good trick to make you look better. Cuts in filming every second may lead us to believe otherwise.
* A nice location is also good and will not detract visually from a good performance.
* Dressing up will add another dimension to your performance. Please be sure of clothing safety if using fire

They don't officially exist as far as I'm aware - it's more a case of "What the judges like best".
Although I've always supported it's the "Best Video" competition, i.e. not the best spinner, not the best costumes, not the nicest location - just which video is most (re-)watchable.

But I could be wildly wrong and it's whoever has the nicest arse.

I'm rather looking forward to making my entry this year. I even have original music!! (not by me, by a friend who's a dj.)

Does anyone happen to know if releasing our vids online prior to the announcement of what vids made it on makes any difference? Does it disqualify the vid?

As Malcolm pointed out last time, what's the point of them being for sale on the DVD if you can just download it...

So no, you can't put it up and enter it I'm afraid

Speakin of DJ related music, I'm assuming that music that samples other tunes (your normal underground DJ thing, without authorization to use the samples) are not allowed? Dunno how that falls in relation to media ownership.. Anyone know?

I have a friend that makes music. Literally makes it rather than chopping up other peoples music. He does a lot of work for corporate vids, TV ads and films.

Would anyone be interested in having him create music for you for your vids? I assume some form of payment would be involved.

Just a thought smile
