hello! wave

thought i'd better start a thread here.... biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

so i've got 6 weeks left in new zealand eek which is crazy.... and from that moment on i'm gonna be racing around like a mad thing on a stupidly rushed tour of australia before heading to singapore and borneo

i know its short - i wish i could make it longer but after much thinking i dont think there's much i can do... so here it is...

8th july... arrive in melbourne
(fire night on sunday?)

11th-ish head up to sydney - spend time in sydney and stuff... including a couple of days tramping in the blue mountains biggrin

18th-ish Byron Bay - or so i was advised to visit...could change

20th-ish - Brisbane (Moonfest on the 21st biggrin )

23rd fly to perth (such a long way - ah well all fun fun fun)

(perth beach spin? tuesday night - if i dont have to get to airport?)

27th stupidly early flight back to melbourne to connect with plane to singapore.... ubbloco

too make things more entertaining i might have to spend an afternoon in each of the big cities doing research for my dissertation! ubbloco ubbloco ubbloco

but anyway i'm all excited... biggrin biggrin biggrin
bounce bounce bounce

was thinking bout transport.... how easy is hitching?
otherwise maybe the train? (country link trains have a pass thing...?????)
and erm...campsites....i'm sure if i look i'll find the info...

any comments, ideas, places to visit or people to come see biggrin hug biggrin .....

hug
x

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourself, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous and talented? Who are you NOT to be?

Hitching in Perth is hard and illegal.

If you get busted you get fined....and not many people like picking up hikers simply because it is just not safe.

Depending on where you are staying in Perth we can get you the public transport info quite easily.

please don't hitch in Oz. Its just not safe at all. Take the train where you can - you'll see more that way and meet some cool people along the way........ ubbrollsmile ubbrollsmile

If you book your train tix in advance you get them cheaper. Try booking about 14 days prior. biggrin

Ivan Milat prime example of how safe it is to hitch hike in Australia.....*shudder*

I think that is why it is illegal now....just cause it is too unsafe

Actually flying is also pretty cheap here now with Virgin and Qantas doing lots of cheap deals. Jetstar is a horrid airline though.. if you fly with them be aware they shut their checkins an hour before the flight and it's easy to miss out....

I agree about trains, nice way to travel. Better than buses. You can move around and trains go through lovely places.
Byron is a beautiful beach, worth a day, but not so tempting in the winter. The hills around there are nice, but Byron itself has become very commercialised and touristic, not a lot of soul.

Glad you'll make it to Moonfest!

What's you dissertation on??

Make sure you get in touch when you are in Syd!!! Actually, it is kind of a shame you are not arriving a week sooner. I have just got a new job, which starts on the 11th, but I have a week off beforehand. I could have beem mostly yours!!!
