so i reckon this thread will hold a record of the new things and stuff im learning along the way, all input of any kind is welcome...

*edit*

*where was I? oh yeah here, The elbow, arm, arm elbow roll*

Its simple really, I cant do it.

I've seen some real nice clips of this move (Thankyou MCP/Glass) but I still seem to be missing somthing fundamental.

So I take the staff in my right hand, bring it accross my body under my extended left elbow and roll. extend left arm and let staff roll onto right arm. Bring staff back towards body on right arm

Now here is the problem, it just stops working there, I think i might be missing an extra beat/spin or something. Or it it could be the position of my wrist. Dont ask me what my wrist is doin, it goes all wonky in a natural reaction to the feeling of the staff falling off when i start bending my right arm on the way back in,

Any ideas?

If I can get this I'll move onto to trying to combine it with a shoulder rool and a turn to get it across my back and other shoulder.

I'm hoping to put up a clip soon, not of what i cant do but of what I can, after six months it's be cool to get some HOP feedback.

Love is the law.

He he, it's too hot to play here today...
Love the stuff you guys are coming up with.

A couple cross ideas
extra contact beats: playing around with a vert cross, the outside stick rolls over the back of the hand and is caught again (like the start of a hand elbow thingy minus the elbow). The inside stick is rolled over the forearm of the hand doing the other roll. Then inside hand just grabs it on the other side again. So both sticks keep to thier owner hand.
Static spins: easy enough for heli stuff (that would be holding the cross and turning in a circle), but try this vert as well. You get extra points for sticking your head through and making silly sound effects untill you fall over.
Matirx entry: There is a really nice way to go into a steve if you grab the 'wrong' stick out of a cross (the kind where the top stick is contacted on the bottom one. If you know that one already then on the hand change before you can grab the cross a bit more off centre so that it turns a bit more of a T shape. This will make it so that when it comes back to the other hand the bottom stick will be in a perfect postion to matrix down that arm. grr I made that sound much more confusing then it needs to be. Oh well. Heat. Make. Brain. Goblarg.

I just saw a really sweet new move last night. with the staff spinning clockwise in front of you, right hand wrap, elbow, layout, 180 degree turn to your right, then lift your arm a bit and it goes in to an angel roll. sweet!! this girl did elbow fishtails and stalls with them and wish i could do them. It was absolutly beautiful to watch!!

Fairly lame??? Have you seen what they do? If anything they are TOO good (costumes aside). Hence my tounge in cheek not-so-purdy-now-ey comment.

they are pretty lame, they don't take pride in their appearance, and they don't seem to have an concerns about the artistry of their performances. (Which is probably due to the judges and coaches) The japanese pair from osaka 2004 were amazing thou. They really showed what a good routine should look like. Everything else was a bit pants.

Why am I here?

...

ahhhhh,

was playing last night with holding two sticks 3/4 way along on the metal in one hand and getting them to circle each other, by constant hand squishing. The other pattern I can do is a kind of butterfly pattern, where with a bigger squish they cut across to the other side, then with a tiny bit of circling they can be made to do it continuously, (in the fashion of that rings move).

Anybody have any other things you could do with this?

(This is a move ben showed off from some weird performance at a juggling convention.)

mmm somethign new, not solid yet, but as i say its new.........ok
so staff starts in a steve, left hand, down the outside of the arm...(you know the usual) up th right arm, and back down, but rather than doing a thoat side wrap, duck a little, and let the staff spin round theback of the neck again, and put the left arm out flat, and it wil spin on your arm a few times before you catch it.

oh and halos coming out and in to fishtails, on the left hand side, again not solid, but its getting there now
