So here i am with premiere and a smoking monkey, and it dawns on me that:
a. monkeys get cancer too.
b. I should ask HoP in general about what video sizes they prefer.

I mean, the reality is that in the context of video downloading, there are two breeds online: The Broadband endowed savages of Mordor, and the Blissfully light Dail-up world of the Shire.
To this, i congratulate particularly the efforts of HoP'ers who go the extra (s)miles and produce a dailup-friendly and broadband-friendly editions of their video handiwork! This is what good smeagal would have done, and as everybody knows, good smeagal always likes to helps the master:angel:

So to make your preferences known, (and to further draw out what is already a bodgy reference to Toliken:) ) I'd like to know what HoPers' opinions are of

1. The maximum size a broadband fwirling clip could be before you cry and wish for the return of the king.

2. The max size of a lite version of a fwirling clip could be before your dail-up modem screams 'uncle'

answers to be written on the back of a stone and launched at mars with many rubber bands.
Now back to premiere, for my... master...my
...precious..
we goes away now:loco:

I'm on dial up and I'm happy with anything up to 15 Mb if it's decent quality.

Personally I don't really like vids with blocky compression artefacts on them, I'd rather spend more time downloading better quality.

Im one with broadband and a 60GB hard drive so size is no object to me. Of course I prefer high quality but its always the content that makes the video good. And lets face it, if a video is good enough, even the dial ups will download a 50MB file.

You can always make multiple versions of a video in varying qualities for people with different connections. Or you could cut a large video down into smaller pieces. There are always zip files too. It wouldnt hurt to zip a big video up to make it that much smaller for downloads.

But also, think about the bigger picture. In the not so distant future, the majority of people will have broadband so you might want to make em big and let people grow into them.

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

I think 10-15mb for a dial up version and up to 150-200 for broadbanders is pretty acceptable.

It dosen't really matter if you use a download manager anyway but it had becom clear that quite a few HoP peeps can only see mov files so that would be polite. Loads of people love divX and the mojority of the world seem to be able to view windows encoded files.

All 3 file types in low and high res is my answer

file size dont bother me much but with a screen res of 1280x1024 i want to see big frame sizes, which will gladly bump up file sizes.

though making a flick with a larger res is good, because if it looks just about copeable with on your own screen its gonna look hugh on some kids dad's home PC still running win95.

my quarter!

15meg for dialup, however big you want for broadband. I regularly download 700meg divx movies, so when i'm on broadband its really not a problem, i just leave it going all night. That said, unless you get bandwidth on the cheap, if you make files to put on your webserver 100megs will only allow 100 downloads per 10gb transfer. Can get expensive.

if i had broadband, I'd go missing from HoP cos i'd be on c-strike 24/7
some things never pass.

as for all the opinions in realtion to download managers, I concur with youse - that from a firetwirling video point of view, end-users with download managers should be lumped with broadband end-users in terms of packaging the download.

damn that alsmost made no sense, gramatically.
ah well, so long as i used another opportunity to say 'youse'

jon, your carpets may never be the same... :feral smile:

lol, dan somehow i'm suspecting you're expecting a somewhat different kind of video...

(comtinues temporarily off topic..)
i am giving up now on digitally panning it's just too much work without a dv card! it's taking 1 hour to render every soddin' change i make, and it's only 1:31 long so far!!
also i have settled with a resolution of 360x288, as it is a clean 2:1 ratio to my source footage (DV standand 720x576)
but it's exciting in a nerdy arts kinda way

Sometimes I'd like to see less credits- the briefer the better cos if you're interested in them you can freeze the player to read them.
