Fire mutayshun at America's Biggest Halloween Street Party

PYROS,

tomorrow night during the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval which starts at 6 PM officially, we don't know when, but the 50-person mutaytor fire, drum, and musical band troupe of LA will be in force! prolly wandering & kinda not-quite-specific schedule like most pyro performers in a street event. so we're givin you MUTAYTOR'S PROFILE HERE

then the COMPLETE WEST HOLLYWOOD LINE-UP AND TIME SLOTS!

so here's

mutaytor

we've made a montage of pics of their fire and band performances. on the bottom left, their drummer sits stark naked in a cage attached to a giant tesla machine, while the dancers are off stage left in another cage, gyratin! the beach burn is at LA's Dockweiler Beach this June 29, 2002, the chicks playing fire on da floor are at their Great Bulls of Fire Taurean Birthday bash.

"The experience is inspirational... infectious... unforgettable...

Featuring over 50 thundering drums, pyrotechnics, aerial performers, hi-tech laser projections and visuals, International break-beat science, dangerous stunts and over 15 tribal performers. The Mutaytor's electric stage show is like an auditory psychedelic assault that invades your body then overtakes you into a frenzy of blissful rhythms, tones and beats. Part Blue Man Group, part Stomp with a dash of Cirque Du Soleil, the Mutaytor's visual presentation is one-of-a-kind. Incorporating live swordplay, tribal fire dancers and drums from 4 continents, the Mutaytor spans cultural and historical timelines and beyond."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The Mutaytor provided a combination of music and performance art much like a freak show. A woman in a pink leopard outfit was swinging from a cymbal while a man in a yellow construction hat shook maracas and danced all over the stage... which felt more like a rambunctious night at the circus than a 10-hour party..." - San Francisco Chronicle

"Simply put, you guys were awesome! The band's music, animation, special effects, and performers really sparked off a fabulous evening for the students from Gallaudet University and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, New York." - Christopher Kaftan, President of Student Body Government, Gallaudet University for the Deaf, Washington DC

"...it allows us to return to the openness and playfulness
that adults were forced to shed." - Reno Daily News

"The Mutaytor...a 30 member performance group of drummers,
firespinners and dancers" - Los Angeles New Times

"A truly amazing spectacle...the performers, the visuals, and the music of
The Mutaytor will leave you breathless..." - Dan Laray, City of West Hollywood

Legendary entertainer and choreographer Debbie Allen to serve as Honorary Mayor of West Hollywood! Pop Superstar "Pink" added to Carnaval entertainment line-up! Special appearance by Anna-Nicole Smith! Sponsored by Miller Brewing and
ClearChannel Radio. . .

The largest Halloween street party in the United States. The Carnaval spans over one mile of historic Route 66 in the heart of West Hollywood. Santa Monica Boulevard is closed between La Cienega and Doheny Boulevards to host over 350,000 attendees. Many will be wearing some of the most fun and unique Halloween costumes anywhere. In addition, four stages will feature non-stop talent, dancing and costume contests. The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of the new celebrity Honorary Mayor. The Celebrity Honorary Mayor will be presented the keys to the city on our main stage.

The West Hollywood Costume Carnaval hosts an unmatchable demographic, including gays, lesbians and families with children. This year's attendees will also include popular music performances by big-name groups like New Wave sensation Berlin and Latin superstar Paulina Rubio. See below for more performance information.

Proceeds from the West Hollywood Costume Carnaval will benefit the Pets Are Wonderful Support Los Angeles (PAWS), AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) and SOVA Food Pantry organizations.

MAJOR MEET, GREET, & PARTY TIME!

in the south end of SoCal, we're schemin some welcome gatherings & fire parties. . . looks like maybe our favorite secret Salt Creek home burn beach, Sunday Dec 8, if visitors got enough pyro stamina? and maybe Oceanside's strand Monday Dec 9? we'll update y'all, SoCal pyro & party family!

here's an update on other visitors & dates shapin up:

Kali in LA December 13 - about 27th, 2002 "on her way to Germany." yeah, right, stoppin home from Amherst in LA on her way to Germany, jetset gal.

she's gigging right away in an independent arts festival in the San Fernando Valley, northside of LA County, on December 14 and/or 15, 2002, and will be at Miss Kitty's in Hollywood, prolly 21+, on December 20, 2002. she wants to spin with everyone game enough to play with a chick who SPANKS with whips at da kitty-cat's flick (for real).

MikeGinny & Maximus just might come down together as early as December 28, 2002 a few days before TAO, and enjoy the hospitality of the ever-welcoming, ever-warm pozee & wink pad. they do, we're gonna play the hell outa them!

iluminaryfaerie (Gaja) is lookin for travel buddies for backpack stylin' it, if you got wheels or jus wanna join her hitchhikin, she needs to make some plans quick, but she's really really open about itinerary, seriously, wanna go to Mexico with her? then be sure to post in her !!!Looking For A Travelling Partner!!! thread!

hey, Maximus, you & scrappy Prometheus Fire Circus crew outta Santa Barbara & Ventura, & your other gypsy homies, help her find some like-souls, please?

if you can give a place to stayover for any of our guests, even give them a second part of our large Socal territory to hang in, be sure to let us know here or at SoCalFire411@yahoo.com!

yah, Ray, we're gonna totally miss u 2 this visitors' week comin up. this time we'll include you on the event mailings, we keep you off the SoCal events 411's right now as bein out of town.

EVERYONE,

party & meet & greet & sleep's all going well for the big Dec 8-10 Visitors bashes.

many of you are waiting for official stuff from us at SoCalFire. thanks for your patience, and sorry things are slow to go out, but we're working hard on it, not fuqn around.

for my part, my crippled system is just so slow especially at stuff critical for peeps in towns across SoCal like the driving directions. the customized re-edited maps are done now, & distance specs, but ya wouldn't believe how slow mapquest loads on my ol, tough-lovin b*tch. d*mn str8t, lucky it's not SoCalFire411 sayin it.

the big night here Monday Dec 10 especially is gonna be the Pyro Party of the Year! so y'all better make it!

Gaja

except Gaja.

iluminaryfaerie, Gaja (she pronounces it "Gaya" like Gaia our earth mother, like Gaya the place where Buddha was enlightened) called me this morning, the little love has her cell phone with her Ontario, Canada number.

she's pretty heavily sedated, gettin woozy times, but sounds really gutsy & upbeat as always, even with her disappointments about her accidents and about missing our visitors' party in SoCal this round.

she's got a splint now on her leg now, and needs to go back to the same docs end of the week, so she'll miss the Love Caravan out of SFO via Santa Cruz to SoCal, poor beautiful gurl. she's just got to heal now til midmonth, then we'll work with her about coming to SoCal or elsewhere before he goal of Bisbee, AZ.

why Bisbee? turns out she's found out the sleepy lil border town of 500 becomes a 5,000 head street fair with lotta circusy street performers for NYE (*grin*). if she goes from Berkeley, she can go with a whole busload of peeps, and she means busload, with a real bus to sleep in & camp out of, & all.

then we'll see if she can stay in the states and go on to Mexico as her heart desires for the 2nd half of the winter, or needs to get back to her family & friends near Toronto.

i so sorely wished she were well enough & things were cheap enough for us to have some real fun on the phone, but dealing well and bravely and creatively as we can imagine with what's up, we kept to the limited biz of wheres & whens on travel. felt short; really wanna play in person and really talk with this wonderful hobo friend soon.

Gaja, thanx for connecting with us so well, ya give us such cheer even in the d*mndest, and we'd all die if we din't get our love through to ya.

with all my love and the joy of our gatherin, contributin, & playin together ,

~ Mikie

pozee-lovers!

just updated; the links show you our latest, growing list of DJs, including DJ Defiant's psytrance added alongside DJ illestmindset's jungle & SocalFire's [Spin Dr. Troll (Depth Recordings) has speedily recovered from rolling his truck over twice, came to our pre-party burn last night, and should be ready for his turn at the decks.

fire artists among us now gonna include poi spinner Gabby (Cape Town, South Africa), 2 members of Mutaytor, Regina Rich of HoP & 4 guests, & we're happy to say Maximus is already here with us, spun yesterday, & gave us home-made Maximus brand bottled mead!

pozee's been packing mightily, yet is in great spirits & full of his usual smooth vigor. but he has become a bit of a coward in one way: he won't let FireMike touch his tits, now that FireMike has the first urge ever to touch them as so many have felt for pozee before. could it be because FireMike says he'd really like to ripp them a bit?

well, romantically upgraded by niprings, pozee showed he does a mean kiss while spinning poi around himself & a gurl smilin into his chest.

from last night just before our dindin at FireMike's then our burn at South Salt Creek Beach & Pirate's Lookout til midnight:

"GOOD NEWS! some of our out of town pyro visitors have arrived, and are with FireMike now. maps to FireMike's were sent to those actively expected for tonight's small pyro visitor welcome vigil, and directions were given by word of mouth. anyone who wants to join us tonight, please phone FireMike before 6:30 pm at 949.643.1625 in Laguna Hills, or after that as we move to our burn site, phone the cellphones of calvran 949.412.5080 or fireproof 949.338.2413 or Elizzy 510.459.7883, who will be showing us, tonight, her photos of bringing fire poi to Cambodia and the Asian subcontinent.

so here's word for you from the pyro visitors we're welcoming to SoCal:

Dom (London): "hello all, i've been in a car for 10 hours & i can still do the 7 beat weave!"
Vern (Santa Cruz): (*shrugs eloquently in a yoga posture, one bent leg & one extended both flat on the floor*)
Kyrian (Connecticut): "hi." aside: "that's all i can say, because it's what being in a car for 10 hours does to your brain."

and guest of honnor pozee (SoCalFire host, Oceanside) says: "hey, pshhhhhht-tah! score!" (*he tells us he's bowling with stuff in his house as he packs it up for moving...he hits lamps & stuff right on with whateva he hurlz!*) here's a lil postcard from him with Josh & Kate in front of The Strand Pad, suntime. yo, notice that your PozeeFire Part II Flyer you got last message is an actual view across The Strand at O-side. ok, we admit, it was sunny there too before FireMike got his hands on it.

tomorrow night, we'll also be joined by members of Mutaytor fire/drum/music troupe of LA, & more fine djs in our SoCal jungle, trance, progressive, & other tekno flavor communities.

so firing up for tomorrow night,

your friendly neighborhood pyros at SoCalFire"

Raph, wonderful you're coming to our area. where in San Diego will you be? got dates yet?

no doubt we'll put together a welcome burn for you, & there may be just a few other spins in the extended area.

i tried an entirely rough alpha-test of longer-than-standard fencing foil slightly flexy iron rod in a drilled dowel hole, then good thick poi-type kev ribbon just kludged on temporarily for a trial. liked very thin hardware store white "hardwood" thinness for finger twirling (not whole hand like staff) but they broke off the rods (too thin) in about 12 seconds for my opponent, then without using them much again, next morning for me before Kyri took the photo of it in my hand vs. Maximus' heavy wide single-edged blade wrapped in kev.

Ran into Roger, friend of The Strand Pad household, who had a fencing scholarshipo, remind me of the few most basic postures & moves from my dark ages rudimentary class. he felt a pair of standard foils wrapped in kev would work, and be stunning.

not yet being able to afford a pair unless i luck into them unexpectedly 2nd hand (& not looking in those places much now), i'll just try to find a firm-gripping pair of handles - thin gives more spinning options besides fencing - but i wonder how non-spinnable, thicker & heavier than otherwise wanted screwdriver handles might serve the next test? & it seems natural to try rope kev instead of ribbon, which can be folded over and sewn but which bunches too irregularly when spiralled around the rod, can't get that tight. if the rod can be shoved through the center of several feet of kev rope.

so when ya comin?

with all my love,

~ Mikie

yo Feuermacher,

good to speak wit ya on da phone, funny my mistakin ya for DJ illestmindset who's also from Lakeside and likes to shock a lil with his posts.

yo illestmindset dropped some solid jungle, did ya make the party yourself? din't meetcha there, so i'm lookin to next time; do you massive? are ya going to Together As One?

we got a number of pyros goin to TAO, prolly Kyrian, Maximus & some of his cru, pozee may be in town for it, did Bash & Chicken Japan mention going unless they're gigging? Myst, FireMike, some of the DJs who hang with us, & we're sure to find more LA pyros especially who are going.

so we're schemin a pre-party burn, near the LA Coliseum where the party's at just south of downton LA if we can scout out a place to light up. we may even burn earlier too, once we figure out where to put up MikeGinny who's comin to SoCal for TAO, we might have a local welcome burn.

Raphael96 is just sayin he's in San Diego mid-January, so that's in your backyard too.

so Feuermacher, when you free to join us:

(1) late December (maybe 28th-30th) when MikeGinny comes
(2) December 31 TAO pre-burn, near downtown LA if possible
(3) mid-January when Raph comes?

with all my love,

~ Mikie

SATURNALIA 2002

some mountain top in SoCalFire's northern reaches
venue to be announced tomorrow
about 80 miles (1-1/2 hours) from LAX

pyro friends: come attend, come perform!

Saturn rules Saturnia, on Rome's capitolene heights, but Saturnalia fire troupe rules this California mountain in his name, inviting performers of all kinds, fire arts & cold, jugglers, sword-swallowers, stilt walkers, acrobats, tribal noisemakers, gypsies of every hand & scarf & our friends of all kinds to join in Saturnalia this Saturn's (Satur)day.

Non-Https Image Link

SCHEDULE & HOWS
all night: beats ~ Breaks, Trance, Jungle, Hip-Hop, Big Beat and Old School Techno
9 pm - 12 midnight: your performances of all kinds except fire: stilts, juggling, all kindsa bodyplay
12 midnight: Saturnalia troupe fire performance
thereafter: your own fire-play begins, adding to coldplay in progress

parking: flashlight attendants at mountain base, free shuttle truck up to gathering
bring: wood for burn-barrels, blankets, dress warmly for moutain-top nightchill

SATYR WHEN?

\Sat*ur*na*li*a\, n. pl. [Latin, festival of Saturn]

1.(Roman Antiquity) The Festival of Saturn, celebrated in December, originally during one day, but afterward during seven days, as a period of unrestrained license and merriment for all classes, extending even to the slaves.

2. Half-naked fire-breathing freaks on Saturday December 14 (led by our Saturnalia hosts here in California)

SAY WHAT?

Saturnalia sez, "The Roman Holiday of Saturnalia is upon us.
Come revel in the dark woods atop a mountain.
Let your Freak Flag Fly.

We want you to help us celebrate Saturnalia in the best way you know how. All manner of performance is encouraged, so bring your stilts, whistles, juggling apparatus, drums, swords for swallowing, dancing pants, and FIRE gear.

HEAR WHICH?
The festivities start at 9pm and go straight through the night until 7am with non-stop dj's spinning the best in Breaks, Trance, Jungle, Hip-Hop, Big Beat and Old School Techno.

Fire performance begins at midnight (the witching hour) with Saturnalia tearing it up as only we know how. . .

FIRE WHO?
then opening the zone for all of you who want to perform throughout the night.
We only ask that you follow some basic safety rules and sign up before midnight... oh, and you've GOT to be 18 years or older to play with fire... sorry, that's the way it's got to be."

Everybody, of all ages, is welcome to play with utter abandon in every other way you like. SoCalFire says let Saturn bring out the most delicious reveller's instincts your body craves to release around the fire with us, all night long.

All pyros who perform fire this Saturnalia night must check in with your equipment immediately on arrival. Brian, the Safety Master, will clear you for performance with a wristband, and you'll get updated dj line-ups so you can choose which kinda beats ya wanna spin or perform with. In case of too many fire artists lighting up at once, your sets will be staggered by the Safety Master's staff. Props to Saturnalia's Safety Master & cru for making sure we pyros take care of safety among our own family, they'll make sure pyros & equipment are also in good shape just before you spin, so find the Safety Master or safety proctors before you step into your arena.

"This is a FREE party, so tell all of your friends, and leave your inhibitions down the hill.

MOUNTAIN MOVES & BODYFUELS?
Please carpool and park at the bottom of the mountain, we'll be there with flashlights to tell you where to park. We have a truck that will be running people and equipment all night up and down the mountain; if you can walk it great, if not, be patient and a lift will be available.

Dress warmly, bring blankets to sit on and snuggle and bring wood for the burn-barrels if you can... everyone will thank you, rest assured.

Of course, we expect you to respect the environment and the property we are using. It's privately owned and the owner is HUGE. He'll be there, just look for the biggest guy and that'll probably be him. Nothing makes our host happier than to help us throw our party, so party hard and LEAVE NO TRACE."

SocalFire suggests ya bring plenty of water & nourishment to fuel your dancin, whirlin body through the night and into break-dawn, since vendors might be scarce, & breakin carbs together is a great way to share the sun-up.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS & UPDATES
Saturnalia's crew will provide directions to us no sooner than Thursday, December 12. SoCalFire will provide any additional directions from SoCal county centers as always. We'll direct you to all online driving directions & details as soon as they're publicly available. Thanx to Danny, Saturnalia's external affairs liaison, for providing our pyro family with important intel on how we can all join the Saturnalia festivities in flaming glory.

watch this SoCal thread for details coming up in the following weeks on....

BURNING WOMAN II
weekend of March 21, 2003
in the SoCal desert
limited to 300 people

gathering SoCal and surrounding pyros, goddess spiritualists, dramatists, artists, & musicians around a 20 foot high, enormously wide Venus of Willendorf mother goddess who will give birth to fire like ancient greatgrandmother Waga Waga harbored our first fire in her loins in the ancient of days.

Burning Man officially maintains a distance from spiritual identification in the wisdom of its famous administration. Burning Woman seeks to fill us from fire mama's yoni, open to spiritual waters and spiritual flame.

Growing out of the sacred energies ignited last round in Burning Woman I, next year's festival invites you to form a Burning Woman homage troupe in advance, to adore and address Burning Woman for 25 minutes with fireplay, dance, ritual, prayer, music, & love, sharing it with a community united in sacral pyro communion.

in the finale of the festival, we shall give our fire mother the flame she craves, and watch her ascend in a flight of sparks which fall back to feed our living earth.

yo MikeGinny & Maximus are going to be hosted in Oceanside, from Dec 28 thru New Year's, at SoCalFire host dulceflame & family's pad, about 5 blocks from the former pozee-wink pad.

lil bird in Arizona sez pozee may roll back into this hometown where we always love him that same day too, wouldn't that be too cool tit perfect?

we're startin to get a feel southern SoCal pyros wanna have a lil welcome burn with them the very first night, Saturday Dec 28, then they'll have time to follow up with some they meet, & others who don't make it that night. post up here if you're game for that burn, or if you know peeps off HoP who will come then.

we're still open though to hosts closer to San Diego city to offer our guests a lil variety.

Kyrian's boppin, smilin & spinnin her way around southern SoCal now after some time northside of LA with Kali, hope Kali might join us farther south here too before Together As One?

who all is going to Together As One, LA Coliseum? here's one place to post up & let us know!

we got an inquiry into FirePlay LA to find out if there's a burn there in West LA NYDay, Wednesday Jan 1 the evening afta TAO ends, so some of us goin to TAO can stay around LA, have fun or nap, then burn while we're still Angelenos to celebrate the New Year there with the biggest gathering of pyros happenin in SoCal right now.

that's evolving news, yo, SoCalFire will confirm what gets definite as we go!

with all my love,
