rightyho,

just over a week ago, i started work ont he UCOF video with the updated windows movie maker. This was Windows XP Professional installed on c:\windows i then spent 200 quid on upgrading it, new motherboard, processor, 120gb hard drive and video card.

the problem was, that because i had changed so much.. Xp kinda when trying to load up. so it now doesnt go into c:\windows.

i partitoned the new hardrive into two logical drives and managed to borrow xp Home edition off a friend and installed it onto e:\windows..

that all worked fine..

looking around my computer drives i managed to stumble across the windows xp professional cd which i had copied to my computer..

i then tried to install it on the c: drive but as you dont choose where to install it to...it installed xp proffessional to the E drive as well...

so now xp professiónal is running fine from the e: drive, but it still itself when i try to boot from the C: drive.

i would also liket o have my old desktop back with the pictures and the work in progress ucof VIDEO:

i ´tried to open the ucof video in the old movie maker (not updated from theweb as i have no internet connection) and it aint working.

I have also tried to remake the UCOF movie but the old version of movie maker is sooooo stupidly hard to use its nigh on impossible..

just copied the pinnicle cd from Konsti so i can use that for the video..

the onlyproblem now is getting all of my old settings and documents back.

ANY ideas?

Argh xp is a bastard whn it comes to repairing it, I can only think of the obvious but I'll spit it out anyway,

Er do you have a drive image? I guess not or you would have tried that already.

The "system restore" function? That saves all of Xp's settings maybe it can help you but you've probably tried that already too........

Apart from that I cant help you dude, I wish you luck.....

Rule #1 about computers, if you dont back things up, DONT CHANGE ANYTHING!

You could be SOL man, if a system recovery doesnt fix things, and you cant recover the info from your old HD then you are SOL. I would return the new HD and get another.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

well, at uni we've found the best method to fix computers is to give them a solid thwack!

we're not sure why.... its even stumped the electrical engineers who know stuff.

i think the sledgehammer may be a tad excessive thou...

good luck!!!

It'll be to do with XP. You need to contact microsoft and get your copy of windows XP re-enabled. XP identifies your computer buy your hardware, so when you change it. It thinks your trying to install it on another computer and won't register(online). Anyway that's just my thoughts later.

Speaking of computers, we (all on SSL) need you to start playing again. Email me what bits you need, and I'll have a look through my spare bits box. Maybe ask Brodieman, Weasel, Puresock, Uber and Asena if they have any bits they are willing to donate to the cause?

it's still in high wycombe at the mo, but someday soonish i'll probably be carrying it back from spitz.

The challenge is now be getting tinternet in my shared house that currently doesn't even have a BT plug.
but someone else who wants tinternet just moved into my house, so thats sounding more possible...
