Does anyone know if these chains can be used for fire poi?

I think you should be able to use them, but I would not. Wire tends to accumulate kinks, as well as eventually starting to fray, both of which are Bad Things (tm).

Stick to chain of some kind. Preferably the good quality kind.

Stainless steel ropes are a good idea. I have used stainless steel rope for other things, but not poi.
The thinner ropes are pretty flexible and with proper care and use, should last a long time without kinking or fraying. Unless you do a lot of super-dooper-uber loops (sorry, I don't know the proper name) with really heavy poi.
All you would have to do is inspect the rope before and after every spin to make sure there are no broken wires or any other problems. But you should do this with any fire poi anyway.

Providing the fittings are up to the job, these ropes should have a minimum breaking load of around 240kg.
Compare that to a similar strength chain and there is a considerable weight difference. And at about 75 pence per meter (quick google search) + fittings, I think it may also be cheaper than welded link chain of a similar strength.

The only problem I can see is the heat getting to the crimps and softening them, resulting in the ends opening up and your poi deciding to go where they want. That all depends on the metal used to make the crimps though.

For this reason alone though, I would probably stick to welded link chains.

Super-duper-uberloops == orbitals.

The problem is that poi get banged around and generally abused. Wire works, but chain is much better in my opinion.

Ahh, Orbitals lol. I must get myself a poi move dictionary. In fact, does one exist?

Yea, normal poi would get banged about and abused a lot, but you wouldn't really abuse fire poi as much. Would you?
If so, then I must be doing something wrong, because I take care of my fire poi and try not to bash them about.

[Old link]

But yeah, go for wire, but I think most people will prefer chain of some kind.
