I,ve made two poi whom are very heavy (i called them concrete poi ;-))
But the rope i used for turning (the part where you put your fingers) cause blisters.
Does anyone have a tip on what i can use better? And how to make that. IS there maybe some thread about that?
They are really spectaculair on fire, so i want to keep them like this but i dont want to have bleeding fingers all the time...

(P.s. i hope i can make myself understandeble, cause my English is not all that good)

What precisely are your handles made of?

What is the rest of your set made of?

How heavy are the heads?

You can buy handles from this site, but I tend to just grip the chains on their own.

Yes, one of my dutch mates said the same thing but i dont like to work with the chains through mij fingers.

The heads are appr. 3 kg 9i wrapped 3 pc. of 10 cm Kevlar on 30 cm rvs. The poi on a rvs chain (1 mtr). i used mountainclimbersrope (really do not know the right word in English) Witch is very strong but, not smooth. because of the rough surface it cause blisters.

I will look for the grips on this site also, allthough a friend of mine bought some in holland (not from this site) and those were not strong enough so they ripped.

I will see if i can found the grips you speak of.

Thanks for your answer! i appreceate it!

I'm thinking maybe a pair of gloves, or even better make your own handle out of strong fabric.

Don't mind me, just passing through.

3kg? 0.o Sounds lethal....

I wouldn't even know what to recommend for a 3kg head... the Gorilla fists that are the size of Malcolms head are only 800g each...

What were the handgrips that your friend used made from?? Leather should be strong enough for any head (with 3kg heads I won't be making any guarantees, though)

I guess the other option would be to coat your current handles in something more forgiving... tape or something like that, perhaps. Even if you just tape up the areas that rub on your skin it might be enough? Medical tape tends to be fairly easy on the skin... or masking tape.

I,ve found a solution for now. I used (pff what are they called...wait they look something like this https://www.shikake.nl/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/karabiner.jpg

They are HEAVY! But spectaculair. i only dare to do a easy butterfly and the windmill with them. The spot on my legg (with no fire) is still there) But when on fire...wow. A flame like armageddon (well ik like to exaggerate a bit, but still)
The sound they make: woefff woefff
Yes, i guess they're lethal. Some girlies take a knife i only carry my poi around... hihi

Its a good workout too! ;-)

So 1500g each? Still crazy heavy....

Leather should work, but watch the stitching.

Leather gloves have saved me from blisters several times, you don't really need any more if you have the strenght to sing 3 kg
you know...
i weight 3 kg when i was borned
are you using babies as poi?

Polyester marine rope is pretty friendly, ime. It can be coarse when you get it, but with a bit of use it soon becomes soft and fuzzy. Though my long term solution has been to develop calluses on the edges of my index fingers tongue2

another solution ive just though of is to cover the handles in electricians tape and then tape around where it rubs on your fingers so they slide? just off the top of my head

fire is alive. it lives and breathes. it consumes and destroys. but we control it and live with it, we are fire dancers
