I haven't seen the Canadian one but the American one might as well be crack.

It's about the only time I get to see my favorite choreographers actually do meaningful dance choreographies and not what they are hired to do by video or broadway show producers.
Some of the performances are sooooo powerful.

I was so angry when Wade Robson was asked to leave the show. He choreographed a dance to the song "Waitin on the World to Change" and the dancers wore all white outfits with PEACE written boldly in black across the front. The dance was poignant and a strong social statement protesting the war. Of course this lead to an uprising of the right wing who felt it was that public television and dance was no place to show such a statement (yeah, I was confused to). He didn't return the following season.
I completely kowtow to Wade and Mia Michaels. Some of the other choreographies aren't bad either but theirs are/were consistantly amazing and I couldn't wait to see what they would come up with time after time. I could care less about the contestants, just show me the choreographies!!!!

But then, I lap up dance shows like a dehydrated kitten sucks milk.;)

Yeah, I love Wade R and Mia too!!! Season Four they in introduced someone named Sonia, who was really edgy too... I just dont find the canadian choreographers anywhere near the same quality.

In fact, I think they have one of the guys who was a contestant on SYTYCD a few years ago, doing a lot of the choreography. He does not have enough experience!But it is hard to pinpoint what is not working- it looks like all the elements are there, but missing the life.

I must have watched the dance by Mia Micheals, danced by katie and twitch( the one with the door) a gazillion times!! Total porn, lol

The one that Mia did with Twitch and (I can't remember her name) on the bed...OMG! My heart rakes every time I see it!

Pasha, who was on the first season does choreography now.

Lacey, who I think was on 3, maybe 4, is a choreographer on the American Dancing with the Stars. She was paired up with Lance Bass, got in alot of crap for being too edgy but still came in third. She rocked.

Hawk, one of my all time favs (the bird and flower dance he did by Wade..OMG!) is with a really high end dance team now that tours the globe.

I also saw the season 2 winner on Broadway.

It's nice to see a reality show with actually talented people who go on to do really amazing things.

I just saw the Sonya contemporary piece. It was based on comic frames and I could see it but not so very. It's edgy but at times it seemed pointlessly frantic. If she smoothes it out she'll give Wade a run for his money.

I was glad to see Wade come back after the controversy (and he choreographed a show in Vegas that I am boycotting, but that's another story). *sigh* I do love that man's style.

Ever notice how much John Mayer music they use? It's odd.

Now I'm going to have to find some of the Canadian one. Is it the one with the dark haired host, not Kat? I ran into one of those on YouTube and the dance sequence was *really* short. Just over a minute instead of 3 or so.

Now I'm going to have to download all four seasons and watch them again.

lol, i just started watching the aussie one too!

I like the dancers, and the judges comments are very insightful, but the choreo, like the Canadian one, seems to be inconsistent.

I re-watched a bunch of the canadian ones too tonight, and I still cant figure out what is the missing element. the dancers really are fabulous, and there is nothing obviously wrong with the choreography, it just does not leave a lasting image though! Nico, one of the dancers absolutely leaves certain images in my mind OH LALA. Ze french Canadians are sooo HOT!!

Pele, I also think it ROCKS that so many of the dancers are getting such amazing opportunities after their experience with the show. Why are you boycotting Wades vegas show? I dont know anything about it...

After watching lots of dancing tonight, i figured out something about unison performances... I really dislike it, when used as MCP and a few others said, as a show of skill( explained in another thread). I mean i see that it takes skill, but the actual unison does nothing for me. However, when it is used to build energy in a group piece, emphasising something, dramatizing and exaggerating, making the dancers seem like one expanded moving organism, it can be extremely engaging and powerful as a choreographic tool . I saw some good examples of this on the aussie show, a dance done to the song "blackbird" Loved it!

I am so enjoying my indulgent day off, snuggled in bed, fire roaring, cats purring, pizza in the oven, and dance vids on the screen...

Oh good. They shipped off Cat Deeley to America.

Watched a couple of the dances on there..I just love the way the audiance stay completely silent when a couple are doing some awesome popping, yet scream like spanked monkeys when they throw their sunglasses off.
