And so, announcing the worst kept secret in history.

Uberpoi will almost certainly be held on the weekend of the 16th of July.

Teachers will be confirmed in the next few weeks. but don't you worry, they're going to be DAMN good.

price will be £45.
why the increase you ask?

because the uberstaff teachers were paid a very small amount, certainly not enough for the time they put in. and we would like to pay people a reasonable amount for their work. £45 is still very cheap when compared to most weekends of this type (approx £40 per day is the usual rate).

Accomodation will be fun to sort out, but i'm going to try to find a cheap location for all.

i am away in bristol for the next week, so will not keep you up to date until after i get back.

*invites excitement*

wink

much love

There is another small problem about me coming. I don't think I can get the time off work..... that is if I don't hand in my notice.... which is an option....long story..... only I need to work out how to pay the bills if I give in my notice........ none of which you want to know , sorry I'm rambling.......

hug <------ for Mr bluecat.

If I had loads of money, no work and thought that you lot could put up with me throwing my poi to the floor and screaming obscenities at them every 10 mins, I'd be there in a flash. Maybe I still will be.... who knows.... Lifes full of suprises!

yep, that was a bit silly rob redface

falmouth is for playing and having fun and is based around a bunch of people in tents in a field with nightly parties on the beach.

uberpoi is all about fun and playing lots too but is built around focused, planned workshops taught by people that want and are specifically there to teach.

if people decide to go to falmouth as a substitute for uberpoi i think they would be very disappointed - they are two very different beasts.

i said i would do at least one workshop in falmouth but did something completely different to it (and nowhere near as good) in the end.

i recommend going to both uber for intensive learning and falmouth for playing around with what you've learnt - as far as i'm concerned at least, i can guarantee i'm not going to be spending two weekends in a row teaching poi!

can I keep bombarding you with questions as long as I don't do it in a meg-style whine?

speaking of which? Is there any room in the boot for me? I can have a little maglight in there, a book and a snadwich and still leave space for lots of bags... Plus if you're *really* lucky, I could also whine in the boot, like a sick kitten. biggrin

Or I could pull arashi's hair and ask if we were there yet... Hmmmm.

Er anyway, is there any space left? Or anybody else from pook land going?

Otherwise: hug and :hugs: for you...

the "everyones build its own choreography starting from the same base" that we did at the end of uberstaff was great .. keep this up smile

Isolation,
style & body moves

may be some
multi-plane tricks (boxes, atomics, trinity .. never seen anyone doing this good),
one-handed stuff (with Andy & 2bags it should be ok)

how about;

"choreography, presentation, and poi dancing theory 101"

aimed at building solid routines for semipro/professionals, or dedicated hobbyists wanting to impress the opposite sex. students will learn how to build routines from scratch, how to incorporate dance into a tech move adn vice versa, and if desired will learn [at least part of] a routine utilizing belly dancing/liquid moves while spinning. if time allows we will also take several "tech moves" from the student's favorites and mold them into a dance routine.

if this sounds good, then quick question- is anybody that's going trained in any dance, martial, or acro forms? if so, what kind? it'd help if i had some idea what i'll be working with- if there isn't anyone who's a serious dancer, then i can keep the dance stuff more basic.

and

"ask arashi what he's talking about 101"

otherwise known as "3d spinning basics"

aimed at breaking down the _vast_ misconception that arashi is worth his salt as a spinner wink or at least we can go over some tech stuff at the students' discretion; isolations, inversions, conicals, atomics, trinity, tilts, moving the clock, slingems, dragon's tongue, 7+ beats, and airwraps (though i suspect bluecat should be teaching these wink )

and of course

"uberpoi- things every beginner should know but rarely does"

for the beginners ubbrollsmile (edit:)

yoga postures for poi, spinning and posture, body mechanics and patterning (fountains, flowers, etc.), timing moves and music, basic excersises that take years to perfect, plane concepts, spinning with everything except your hands (AKA gettin jiggy), why the weave is the antichrist, crossovers and intersections, bflies and spiders, cranes and stalls, stuffing your undies with potatoes for that "large and in charge" look.

Hows about a repeat of the best workshop I ever taught with poi, "1 workshop, for 2 poi, at 3 oclock, 4 all levels with no circles" with Dom at EJC svendborg 102

"Introduction to musicality for non musicians" and why there are not 3 beats in a "3 beat weave" 102

"What is good poi?"- I've got idea's for this one, and its a mighty fine workshop 102

How many circles are there in a fountain, this could be a game for the weekend, like pin the tail on the donkey.

I will run workshops in techniques, not so much teaching moves,

above are only early suggestions for idea's, so not at all concrete. But I am open to suggestions, and nows the time to get them in.
