i think richee is specifically asking "how do you spin spiral patterns with your poi?".

[please correct me quickly if i'm wrong richee!]

which stangely coincides with a picture post made by arashi today.

a spiral is generally a curve centred about a point.

the archimedes and logarithmic spirals that people generally associate with the word 'spiral' are not the be all and end all of the spiral world.

sinusoidal spirals (a special case of which is the 'circle' eek) can describe some poi patterns pretty well (lookee).

as far as helix type patterns, there are lots of ways to get them but the ones i can do only have two 'stages' to them rather than the ideal of getting circles of diminishing/increasing sizes over a good few rotations.

still, i reckon if i was that bloke yuta, i'd have some seriously kick [censored] spiral photos in my gallery by now...

think flowers, then think 'shoulder-elbow-wrist-middle of chain-end of chain' - a lovely spiral over 5(ish) beats.

check out jo's elbows thread for more inspiration smile

pesky obfuscating allusory cats - you finally get a hold of them and it turns out there's a hosepipe ban and no bloody water anyway.

and now two random quotes that almost apply here:

"think for yourself, question authority..." meditate

"...spiral out..." smile

i may be confused but i think arashi is saying he has two tongues, is better at poi than a corkscrew-shaped robot sex slave and that he has some kind of time machine to boot...

either that or he is saying:

tech poi = wank wink

Richee rocks!

And yes... offtopic... but only because those with the answers are withholding them. wink

It's nice to see Arashi and Glass both being knowingly elusive on the same thread. Usually you've got to go to multiple threads to see that. eek

they're making it all up i reckon.

look at this evidence of them trying to convince us normal people that things are more complicated than they seem:

*hack!*hack!* (damn furballs) umm

and i reckon i'm allowed to go off topic seeing as i made the only on topic post so far.

mind you, reading richee's first post again, we're not even sure we are talking about the right topic at all!

in the off chance that we are, here's another three hints for heliacal patterns:

for wheel plane spirals, think isolated weaves and combine with outside-ouside hyperloops and longarm.

horizontal spirals you can get nice and easy with longarms and cones - gravity and centripital forces are your friends here...

for quick small-to-bigness, there is my favourite spirally move, utilise tangles that you can 'pull together' before they come apart (i.e. tighten them up or basically 'move the tangle point closer to the head by pulling strings') rather than waiting for them to release themselves.

is that enough to be getting on with...?
