wonder if anyone else remembers Vegemite was in the lyrics of a popular reggae song good while back now, maybe you heard it as an oldskool classic, says something like "make me a Vegemite sandwich"?

Its called "Down Under" and Men at Work sang it, An australian band, singing about our national spread.... ` good song too `

and firemike, the earl of sandwich wasnt battling with his snacks, he was gambaling. The true persuit of an englishman. (which btw i am not.)

Still rakin my brains to think what minero means by something 'better than nuttella', guess ill just have to ask him.

Nuttella has one mayjor disadvantage, its made my nestle, the baby milk bastards. But then, its hard to find processed food that isnt.

Snickers spread is kinda yummy tho.....

Anything as long as its brown. (and not shit)

p.s. has anyone noticed my language getting more offensive lately? I think its cos im livin in scotland again.

a quick OT, then back to the thread:

I am amazed that "Down Under" is considered reggae and old school. Is everything from the 80's seen to be old school?

Reese's peanut butter cups are yummy too
(along with reese's pieces, of course)

Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast

And she said,
"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich

And he said,
"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"

And he said,
"Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They're the real words, however I always thought right up until this very moment, that one of the lyrics was "where women blow and men chunder" No wonder my Dad always looks at me wierd when I sing along to that song.
For the record: nutella all the way. It contains half the fat of most peanutbutters and is a delicious healthy spread for all the family.
I like Aeroplane Jelly too!
Is it the latent radioactivity of Australian soil that makes the "women glow" then?
*comes out of closet*
i have to admit.. i've been a nutella spreader as long as i can remember, but lately i'm a bit marmite-curious. "bi-spreadable" just seems greedy, but if a tasty piece of toast came around all slathered in marmite, i'd probably nibble...
marmite is certainly the rulingest of toast related breakfast snacks.
Goes with loads of stuff as a condoment also (usually sandwich based - egg, or cheese or sommat). Vegemite is like marmite + the musty taste of old people/ festival socks. Nutella is a chocolatey pretender to the munchies throne, much better to just melt a bar of chocolate over some toast.
Nuttela is something that tastes good to everyone right away, its chocolate, lol
Marmite is something you have to develop a taste for, then you love it. I do agree that the first time tasting it is pretty nasty though.
