People is an atypical plural, so it can be left alone, if I understand the rulii correctly.

Shouldn't that be Bacteriii?

And what's all this "We" business? Shouldn't that be "Wii"?!

The rulii as I understand them:

1) For a standard plural, the "s" on the end of the word shall be replaced with an "ii"
1a) If replacing the final "s" with an "ii" would be unwieldly, the namer may choose to alter the word (eg: "pluri" instead of "pluralii").
2) Wordii that do not end in an "s" when pluralized may be left alone (eg: bacteria, virii, genera).

So, following these rulii, I get to choose between teeth, toothii or teethii and I find it more pleasing to use teethii instead of toothii.

It becomes a problem because English has so many irregular plurii.

Other languagii could work better, but then again, it might sound wierd to do this in, say, Spanish.

isnt it something to do with how it sounds greek, or is from a greek root, so in an attempt to seem "educated" it was given a greek plural?

however, in a way it IS actually Octopi. If enough people say it as "octopi" and believe that it is, then that is the plural in "descriptive grammar".....

ok, ill stop being a language geek now.
