Um...this is a poi board. There are probably a few people here who don't do poi, but they do staff or juggling or other object manipulation arts.

Most of the people that don't spin poi you'd probably find on the staff forum.

By the way, if you're a dancer, you might want to look in to Fire Fans or Fire Fingers. They're very much an artform designed for dancers, as you use your entire body to dance and your movements are stylized by the flames biggrin

Aye, dancing can only be accentuated by poi. Maybe try out some poi moves and incorporate them in your dance?

Naturally, I don't do poi. It's soooo three years ago. tongue I made the decision many years ago that I would remain a loyal staffer and would never fall into this poi idol worship thing. Everyone does poi and it really ain't that hard to make it look half-decent to an untrained eye (just do the weave fast!!), but to make double staff look good - well, you have to have SOME talent to be able to pull that off... tongue

Ya know, its funny. I just recently started learning some basic doubles staves moves with that in mind. Im a poi'er at heart and will remain loyal but I like how basic stuff looks good with doubles cuz there are 4 fire balls to play with. I think its also a bit easier to learn the hard stuff with doubles once you know the hard stuff with poi wink

I completly agree. It takes talent and skill to spin staff, and make it look good. Now some may say that spinning staff is easier, and they are right. Any idoit can twirl a stick, but it takes real skills and talent to make it look good. I don't (not to say I can't) spin poi because too many people spin them, they are very easy to impress people with and thats not why I spin, staff is way more challenging, and the most important reason of all: The nut cracker factor. This is the likely hood of a large heavy flaming object coming in contact with my nuts. Poi and poi like toys have an extremely high nut cracker factor. Nuff said ubbloco

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird, now the world is weird and they take prozac to make it normal again.

actually, I think this is a personal thing. I thought learning staff was much easier than learning poi. I don"t do double staff though... I'll admit that ain't easy.

i'd say quite a large percentage of people who post here don't really do much poi beyond basics, they spend much higher magnitudes of time lazing online talking about it than practicing tongue

Honestly, i can count the amount of times i've spun poi since last summer on my hands (poi is definately a sociable summer activity, the novelty/warmth of fire does wear off on cold rainy days after a while), but i've posted maybe 500 times since then, and I'm sure i'm not the only one!

I quite agree with you. I've probably spun poi 5 times this year. I'm not very good at poi either...can just about do the basics weavesmiley I come on here tho and i spend quite a lot of time on here. I juggle more than everything else i do combined, but I find it very welcoming here. I never go into the poi/staff/toher toys moves threads, but contribute to other threads.

*scratches head and wonder what i'm trying to say*

maybe after the summer i will do some poi and staff worth talking of. This site has so much more to offer than just poi and staff threads ubbrollsmile
