Depends how many foreigners there are kicking about... biggrin

BTW it looks like au naturale don't have any of the nice glowy balls any more - at least the shop at meadowbank don't. Anyone know if the cameron toll shop does? (My mum wants some for christmas. Maybe I should teach her poi...)

They do have lots of very cheap metal contact balls, though biggrin ubbrollsmile

firstly - mcp, you are the foreigner in here to me, so you are going ta get that kickin wink

m-seph, i have drawn up last plans for my glow staff today, so i have some idea of how to finish off the last problems, and thus means pics on monday as i got paid today as well biggrin

mcp, pics of uber staff on monday as well for you

but was thinking about your staff with wicks on the end as a catherdral, i was wondering how you would attach to the tube........

simian has a set of nesbit staffs, tapered at the end to allow for a small thread and a small screw, but any larger than this size, you would have to us size the tube, and upsize the screw, and so you would add more wiight!

too tired to go into complications of staff making today, but I'll try:

Who is nesbit. How much are they tapered?

Surely there must be something at B&Q that would allow easy attachment of bolts to tubes.

I've done some stuff with gluing nuts in, which works OK-ish. There's quite a lot of torque on stuff at the end of a staff when it gets dropped, which can lead to bent bolts and unglued nuts. And ya don't want that.

i cant find nesbit staff online, but they are less that a 1/4 inch solid metal tube, tapering down to the ends with a 5-8 mill screw in teh end holding teh wick to teh staff!

search hop for Nesbit fire staffs and you might get lucky or ask simian for a pic of his?

but he put monkey fists on his nesbits biggrin

do i get some sausages?

get a concentrate staff middle bit.

cut the joining bits off... (or ask concentrate to sell you the bits)

use that...

or just have a look at the joining mechanism

use that...

err

get a long thin rod fix it to the end of the staff. either weld it on or use a ceramic (which i found last week) to keep it on (extend it into the staff for support). Fold your cathedral onto that. You could even put a loop on to the far end of the rod... now you can attach stuff to it.

I'm just making all this stuff but it works in my head.

waiting on a call from Miko Metals HQ about not so soft ali. Any minute now.

have scanned catologue but will hold off on email until i get more info.

i'm also looking at joining ali and polycarbonate. glowing firestaff anybody?

surly the glowing would have to be cause by heat?

how are yougoing to stop the flames balckening the polycarb, and thus blackening the glow?

dunno what it is yet, I just saw it on the shelf when i was buying a hacksaw. didnt even think about it until you said 'Nasa Space Shuttle'

label says

'fireproof ceramic compound' *shrug*

i'll buy some today and set it on fire.

hope you like taiko, dont ask, its a surprise. biggrin

edit for mech/

my staffs only seem to get blackened about seven inches down the staff. quick

really i have no idea, but if you could get even a little bit to glow on either side of the grip it would be sh*t cool. I'm playing around with an acrylic tube at the moment but i know it will shatter as soon as i drop it.

hmm talk tech to me,a nd ill see what i can come up with im my brain

you are going to coat all your staff in polycarb, so when it gets heated, the poly will glow and thus hold teh effect after the fire has gone out

you willneed omething to conduct the heat well down teh staff and onto the poly

and i dont think i would like a hugly hot fire staff!

Gold Tinted Spectacles by Beren -
Harry is about to enter his seventh year, and things are not quite what he expected. He is no longer the angry boy who watched his world fall apart at the end of his fifth year, but neither has he completely found his place yet. He is looking for someting, and to his confusion it seems to have something to do with Draco Malfoy. (R & NC-17 versions available)
Stolen Moments by Olivia Lupin (PG) -
A new addition to their household has Harry and Draco sleepless and more than a bit tense...but becoming parents is worth everything...as long as they're in it together.
Parting Shot by Jai (PG-13) -
On their last day ever at Hogwarts, Harry tries to give Draco a proper farewell.

But not so bad as the severus/snape slash fan fiction....

Why did my flatmate have to tell me about this? ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
