All those "in between-", static (seperated on both sides) and buzzsaw isolations work quite well.
So now I try to include isolations constantly into weaves. But at the moment they work only if I turn around constantly - I have problems to keep it in a weave - 2 beat seems to be the maximum there as well.
Anybody tried similar stuff and has some experience and suggestions ???

Thx a lot

Actually, PoiBox, I'd love to see you (or anyone else for that matter) just turn from forward to reverse isolated and back again. I think that if I could see that in my head, I'd be able to get at least one side of it down. Trying to visualize poi moves I haven't seen usually just gets me whacked in the face, especially sober.
Thanks for posting the videos too! Now we can all steal your moves with impunity.

For Mr. Dut and Mr. Coleman:

My interpretations of Isolated Weaves : IsolatedWeaves

(I know, they are not really clean and far from being wall plane - but I am working on it )

Still happy for every tip and suggestion . . .

Nice vid...

my interpretation...

Isolated weave

Turn:

buzzsaw isolation -> normal split time(
by both one beat, infront) -> backward
buzzsaw isolation

L-Side to R-side:

static isolated weave(two beats)->split
time(same transition as the middle part of
turn but from side to side)(one beat)->static
isolated weave(two beats).....forward and
backward.

2 beats static <=>
1 beat split time <=>
2 beats static
——
5 beats

Static isolated weave -

There are two wariations.Difference is in
the second beat.

1.

first beat> -hands are separated
second beat> -hands are close to elbow
-on the left side, right hand is
closer to body
-on the right side vice versa.

2.

first beat> -hands are separated
second beat> -hands are separated
-onthe left side,right hand is
closer to body
-on the right side vice
versa.
-as buzzsaw isolation but one
beat outward.

Glass - In insolated weave (where all beats are outward) is small moment, transition L to R,where one beat is in split time. Look at PoiBoxII forward weave picture. ,I think that's part.
Maybe it is't truth,I have a problem with English translation.I need someones§s opinion

Amen to Glass...

Poi is not a competition.

That's one of the reasons I took to it so eagerly.. that everyone was social and so willing to teach me!!!

As for these sick isolations... I am going to attempt them tonight but I don't understand any of the descriptions... so I'll just try to copy the video..

Keep your arms at 180 degrees from eachother and hands by the opposite elbow (right hand, left elbow) when the poi crosses infront of you.

Aren´t the hands already close to the opposite elbow ?!? Can you please describe it

I think isolated ones are split time too. (in my descriptiion the middle split time part isn't isolated, could be?)

The hands aren't already close to the opposite elbow with isolation. I have two ways how to isolate:
1)hands are separated,like in buzzsaw
2)hands close to oppposite elbow, aren't there two variants?

any other?

yoyoyoyoyo,

first I thought this thing wasnt worth workin on and i kinda just toyed with it a bit, then I realised that this is the way into totall isolation, I gottit going very raggedly in the wall plane and im shure its the secret to turning isolations, also notice when going well the inside poi can lie across the opposite arm, its f**in wikkid!!

gotta run now.

@ nix? can't wait for glasto man!

saw knox today who reports of isolated weaves from thailand - sounds like they have some amazing spinners out there...

and i can turn round with isolations - i just can't do it if i have to cross my arms at any point

*wanders off wondering if weaves with poi are really worth stressing over*

you guys are gona hate me for this...but I've been working on isolations...with a staff... HAH HAH HAH!!!

spin a staff by holding it in the middle. now, make the fire do the exact same circle, but while holding it near one end.

Ok, I know this is cheezy and simple and in the wrong section, but we ARE talking about isolations...

we eat and we drink and we smoke and we try!

Can anyone now put on a video of a smoothly isolated weave please?
You can send it to me and I can put it online too (10MB and smaller)
And I still cannot imagine any more than 3 beats !?!

thx

BTW: What else do you isolate (TTN is quite easy imho)?

dan we don't hate you.

So, I wouldn't post a ner-ner if you weren't trying to toot

stick isolations, was teaching them in a workshop with some really lovely variations about 2 years ago.

But props to you for working them out ...
no, hang on, check that, simon posted them here a month ago:
stick isolations
and I must have talked about them here somewhen.
They're the main reason why it says thanks to jez on the end of my vid. (not jez on HOP, but jez, dan and steve all old staff legends, none of them are on HOP, but).

And there are some really lovely variations for you to explore that still haven't been posted.

i stick isolations you can do all sorts of interesting shapes when you start moving the centre of rotation up and down the stick, and it doesn't suddenly decide to go all floppy like a poi isolation.

uh oh, this is the wrong forum! i'm unwittingly aiding and possibly even abetting a thread hijack! i'm outta here...

OK, I have got down the isolated buzz saw, some isolation thing on either side of my 3-beat (but not kept in iso for the transfer across) and some ttn isolation crap - so are there any other moves that can be converted nicely into isolations? I find that alot of the time you end up pulling the moves off with your body moving around and the poi spinning isolated in the same space, which makes it mind boggling to pull of standard weaves like this, without dancing around like crazy perhaps.
So has anyone any interesting moves they could suggest isolating, anyone tried a corkscrew for instance, and could tell me how that would work?

Ive been messing with some butterfly isolations. In time and split time. Not sure if thats anything new or not but I havent seen them before. Im not great with it and I wouldnt really be able to describe it in words but it looks pretty sick when I do it right. Maybe some day if I get a video camera

hm, isolated 5-beat. Perhaps your arms/hands are crossed in a 3-beat but for the 5 your arms are bent 90 degres at the elbow. It seems that the only way to fully isolate a 5-beat weave is to twist your body with the isolations as you do your cross-over. I don't think arms bend quite that far.

The world is not out to get you but if you fight it you will be eaten alive

Has anyone tried holding the ends of the tails on your poi (as well as the string)?
It gives a good effect if you can't see the string too well, the tail bends like a sail behind the poi and your hand. Until you isolate it. This will give you a small perfect circle which forms slowly then appears to completely vanish in an instant, it almost tricks the eyes- makes people look twice at least. I imagine an isolated weave would look boss like this if I could do one.

happy spinning

Unfortunatly tails dont really aid isolation....

Iso 5 beat today, no body bending required (quite a lot of mental torture tho... ) looks V weird from my perspective...
