well i have figured out how to do a one handed chase/weave, but the only way i can start is by gripping the one poi on my hand through the grips and the other between my ring finger and pinky, i then hold the later poi out at a 90% angle across my body and swing the other up on back down whilst letting the other go, and continue to rotate my hand faceing up the down up the down and from side to side accross my body. i can come out of this by bringing up my other hand and gripping the loose hand holds. i hate this word thing.

My problem is starting, i want to do this trick with fire but i dont want to break rythm and i cant exactally hold the end of my poi when its on fire. Please help!!!!!

All I do to start a one handed crossover (two beat weave) is get both handles in my hand at once and swing them in the same time, side by side, alternating left and right side of your body to keep them untangled. Then once they're going I just force the lead one ahead (I can't describe it any better, you just need to get the feel for it, like spinning meteors).

so do i start with the normal forward weave and then link my one hand around the other hands poi chain and so carry on going? does that work? and i cant seem to get my hands close enough.

I suppose that would work, but I was talking about starting from a resting position.

I guess it's about time for me to plug my welding gloves again. If you have welding gloves you can, simply, hold the burning poi for as long as you need. Granted, you were probably looking for a more elegant answer, but it's true.

Another example of me talking despite being clueless on the topic. I can't do anything one-handed BUT it sounds like you're doing a meteor trick. Maybe if you focused on meteors you could better translate it to poi later.

nyc, your butt speaketh the truth!

once you nail the meteor thing, you'll have no problems with the one handed poi stuff.

Go to 'other toys' and there's two threads on it.

I use the one handed weave to trasition to btb weave.

you can even do the the one hand weave in reverse, and you can turn with it.

I'm going straight to hell.

Do you ever do wraps with fire? If so you might consider going from a one handed butterfly to a one handed weave. All you need to do is wrap one of the poi and not the other. I do it with non-flaming poi by just sticking out an arm to one side of the one handed butterfly. The principal is the same as if you had a butterfly and wrapped one poi to go into a weave.

You can also do the reverse of that trick so you go from one handed weave to the one handed butterfly, by changing the direction with a leg wrap of one poi.

oh yeah,
I found the best position is to hold one poi between your thumb and your index and the other coming out the bottom of my hand held by my little finger. The straps in the middle are now more or less in line. I find it much easier to transition from two hand to one, and back again as you just have to open up your fist a little to place the poi in there.

hope this makes it easier.
