This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

here a pat on the back in advance from me

I got my postmodernist computer program to reply "!" to the question "?".

Also: I learned lots of cheeky poi, airwraps the other way. Bluecats sneaky arm goes underneath extra beat airwrap.

And I have been practising anti-spin flowers. Cos they are obviously the prettiest move ever.

Isolated weave is very hard. (My arms are retarded, or possibly I am doing it correctly... Who can tell... )

Isolated weave is hard. I can just about do it but there's still a tendancy for one of the transfers to unisolate if I don't concentrate hard enough.

I've been thinking that maybe looking in the mirror to see if it's isolated wreaks it?

So maybe I can isolate my weaves?

weave flowers with butterfly arms, and butterfly flowers with weave arms...
and as a consequence of only taking one poi away with me this weekend, contact poi! theres loads of stuff where you wind your arm into the string just enough so the friction holds it on, and slowing down make it slide off... throws and catches that work like snatching an object with a whip, but reversed, if you see what i mean, more like snatching a whip with an object... (also works with feet (and probably objects)) and fish tails and continuous hand rolls and stuff. and thru wraps. and footbag.

And not a move i learned, but one by this dude called pete i met at a bonfire this weekend... three contact balls, throwing each one from his hand to his other shoulder and then running down the arm back to the hand, throwing again... like basic 3 ball juggling but with contact. looked king awesome, with the fire sparking through the balls... he was a bit good. when i first saw him he was staggering about looking really drunk, and i was doing a muntz point-and-laugh when i noticed the two contact balls rolling around, well, everywhere, really, at which point it became a tenticle point-and -gape instead...

I can do this without poi biggrin

I know everybody here has got this all down, and I would feel silly posting this if I wasn't so excited. I FINALLY got it!!!!! I got the Weave! I have been trying to teach myself this for months and just couldn't grasp it by looking at all the tutorials online. Finally I gave up for a while, then the other night I said screw it, I'm gonna learn it if it's the last thing I do. And I did it! I DID IT!!! I know this seems kinda funny for all of you doin' hyperloop-butterfly-underhand-7 beat weave-corkscrew combos but I'm just so stoked! Yesssssss! Peace! Jessy

the weave is much harder to learn than all that techy stuff.

it's all about developing control over your poi, and the weave is the first big step.

so well done, you're quite right to be stoked clap

Not really learnt anything major recently, just playing with as many variations on waist wraps as I can think of.

Sounds interesting! Underhand as inverse? And do you do the Butterfly-weave in same- or splittime?

Atomic airwraps and hyperloops both same and opposite direction. Box weave and atomic weave, which roughly correspond to buzzsaw and normal weaves. Still need to work on turning and combinations though... smile

hello every one, I have not been doing this for very long only like 2 weeks but I have learned all teh basics and am trying new things every day. I have never seen this. Do the weave in reverse, stick your thumbs out really far and when your right hand is over your left hand you catch the string with your thumb and make it spin in half the size circle it was going to and let go. IF you can do this with both hands the effect is dizzying to watch.. Because you are doing the weave however the poi are spinning an extra revolution from a point that only exists for a second on each side. when you do it in front of you the poi sling shot over your head off of your thumb and can only be described as like the moon circling the earth which is your hand while the both of your hands are still doing the weave which is the solar system.

dont make peoples heads turn, give them whiplash.

Productive day...

+butterfly isos (or some variation thereof),

+someweave thing with wraps that makes it like a million beats on one side *doesn't really know what she did, but it looks cool, and feels accomplished* (I just went and counted it, and going through one whole... left to right right to left, on poi circles 10, and both do that... wiggy),

+the concept of buzzsaw isos (only getting them 50% of the time ._.),

+btb bicep wrap,

+bf to btb bf (dunno why I never tried it before).

Some more, but I forget what it was.... weavesmiley

Well.. I was about to go to sleep but then I watched a couple of Sage's video clips... The two tricks/variations that will now keep me awake until I master them were in the second vid clip.. And forgive my lack of knowledge when it comes to the world of poi terminology but what I found interesting was when she spun the poi under her legs and then brought it back to its position in the simple weave it was just in... The second bit I found visually stimulating was when she was once again doing the weave and then ... nope.. I do not think I will be able to describe it. frown.. hmm.. She, I guess, was doing a regular weave and then spun the poi under/through her arms confused lol.. I managed to do it but what is it called?.. And I just learned the under the legs weave (??) she was also doing. That is realy fun to do!

hello?
