hello yair, I can say from my own experience that some heavily wicked staves in use in the Thai islands are not using kevlar, the bright flames are more due to petrol(!) in use, which should never be encouraged due to the dangerously low flashpoint (it explodes more easily)
personally, if you are looking into heavily wicking your equipment, consider building in hand guards (silicon is nice) to protect the handle from the increased heat.
consider flame proof gloves and try not to include wick too close to your handles as the flames will eventually intensify if you keep it still, burning your hands.

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.
