Kinda scared about starting this thread cos i have a bad history of starting thread that already exist BUT i have done an extensive search and im pretty sure that this thread is completely new!!

i was just out in the garden having a bit of a spin, and i thought "hmmm i wonder what other people are trying to learn at the moment" and decided it would be agreat insight into the future of poi and where people were heading, and serve as inspiration to people who are a bit stuck. There is the obvious "oooh ive just learnt this" thread stuck at the top, but i thought it'd be good to hear what problems people are having with the moves while they are learning them, and how the over come them so other people can look and discover ways they might not have thought of.

so start your replies with "This Week I Am Mostly Learning....."

This Week I Am Mostly Learning.....3bt btb weaves, reverse5bt weave, and trying to work out 6bt TTN aswell as forward7bt weave. Problems?? loads, but these moves ( wink):
3btbtb weave, i keep hitting myself in the head, but im slowly getting the timing down,
Reverse 5bt, my wrists dont seem to like it, still working on timing, again keep hitting myself in the head ubbrollsmile
6btTTN again, the wrists are complaining, and the timing keeps going off
Forward7bt, i got a few beats the otehr night but i lost it now frown confused

I am working on hyperloops, isolations, 5 beat weave, the meltdown, and btb. I like to work on a bunch of things at once so I don't get bored just drilling one thing.

How to do all the moves I know and practicing stuff now I'm a wee bit chunkier (put on 28 lbs! *sob* it was them creme eggs and belgian choc seashells last year - I never recovered...)

but who cares about my butt when I got a face like an angel - so full of youth - and now I'm being asked for id at cigarette kiosks (I'm 26 in march and I still look 17 yessss!)

Flowers mostly, with a bit of btb weaves when I get the chance.

Also been working on flow.
I keep coming back to the rev 5bt weave and splitime thread the needle. Last one is 0.o.

I can fake a rev five beat by wrapping my hand, sort of.

Holy sh!t - I understood that post wink

I'm still playing (though I'm sure "playing" implies it's fun...) with whip catches, with Danny from G'ford - lots of really nice combo's coming out.
Current major project is continous whip-tossing - 4-in-a-row the record so far.

I have been working on sustaining my reverse moves (ie maintain a plane-perfect reverse weave for five minutes) so my wonky left hand would catch up with my right. Now I'm working on flow and transitions. Lots of bruises coming my way *g*

Forwards btb weave as a precursor to waist wraps.

Buzzerweave.... if that is indeed the name... basically a butterfly weave with introversions (buzzsaw in opposites) in the middle... This one's shown my how off my planes can be at times... The goal for this one is to force me to clean up my introversions in general, because I feel they're pretty sloppy right now, and it really shows through with atomics.

Aston, don't those antispin flowers feel wonderful? I had the hardest time picking them up, but one day they just clicked. They're far from perfect, mind you, but they are getting closer..... smile

Mucky: Yeah. Still need to work on it a lot more. Dunno why it was difficult. Ah well....

My left hand is still flaky so next step is to clean that up.

w00t.... Progress is made on random throws (and successful catches). Only issue is that my fire poi are not designed for it really (uncomfy handles lose...) so will probably be limited to my socks.

Also working on forward 3bt btb. Think that I have two beats at the moment. Bit hard to see.... rolleyes

hmmm... I am working on perfecting my reverse 3-beat, it still looks a little off. I'm also doing reels, I know them already so I'm just trying to play with them, mix them up and make them pretty!

I want to learn more and more new stuff but I know I should poifect what I have going on now. Oh god that tickles me!

I wish I wasn't bogged down with school or I'd be spinning every hour of every day!

Is cool though. Oh yes, if anyone is trying butterfly weaves, as far as I can tell, you need to move your arms in a forward weave motion on one side and reverse on the other. Or am I just not thinking straight?
