I'm considering picking up a set of flag poi, but looking at the ones on the site I'm really not sure what to go with. Is there a specific set of flags that are good for beginners?

Thanks!

Go with these:

They're probably the best you can get, they're the most like poi that I know of. I have them and I love them. You may want to get a small. Depending on your height because I'm 6' and sometimes the ends of the flags hit the ground and I worry that they'll tear or something.

The only luck is bad luck.

Woah, no link, but Liquid knew what I meant wink HoP also sells them. And I had to grease my swivels so keep that in mind if you buy them.

i actually opened mine up and added some lead shot(shotgun cartridge) to them for a little extra weight makes them behave better in in more complicated types of spin (eg antispin etc... ) wink

Huh, mine does fine in antispin, I can even do isolations to an extent. Only some because the flag part get in the way smirk like linear isolations and any other type look sooo cool with those flags grin Also, out of curiosity, what is in those flags for weight?

they work well as standard but I find another ounce of lead shot really helps with feel and keeps them stable for complex spin types- neater isolation/antispin/cateye etc. I'm currently using an additional 30g to the standard distributed about 15g at the main 'leading' corner point and the rest spread along the edge of the 'blade' of the wing, nice control and the wing behaves itself/looks good smile

I have erik flag poi too and am also 5' 2". As far as I can tell HOP only offers the one size, which was about 5cm too long for inwards spinning stuff, OK for other stuff. It was fairly easy to unpick the long edge, shorten it and reattach the trim and handle - all straight sewing.

I have a set of PoiPoi flags (I wouldn't encourage anyone to buy them as a first flag), but I find them hard to use as they are very large square flags, this means a large amount of drag and a lot of effort is needed to keep the momentum to do isolations, I also ended up with some kids I was teaching picking them up and spinning them over gravel, meaning I had to repair the holes in the silk

Thank you so much everyone! I've bookmarked the suggested site, hopefully I'll get a pair in the next month or so.

Don't worry, HoP has the different sizes. I may suggest the small. The medium is fine, but definitely not large.

I just ordered my first pair from HOP grin THey are red and pretty grin So are there any moves that wont work with flags? Like butterfly's would probably be difficult. What about wraps? Probably no way huh?

I bought a set of flags today (and a set of sock poi), but nowhere did I see an option for specifying size. Meh. I got white with pink borders, should be interesting.

Flint: Mine work most everything, but isolations, wraps and anti-spin are ugly. Otherwise, have not really found stuff I can not do.
