I've been asked if I'm a clown while just walking down the street with a pizza. Of course, I occasionally am a clown so the conversating didn't go as far as yours do. You could always pelt anynoe who asks you with red noses, lousy ones are available really easily around this time of year.

Didn't you know I'm going to clown college in september? And when I go shopping i must be looking for clown clothes. and when I order things from the net they must be face paints and squirty water flowers.

Wearing a little thin now? I think so..

Dumbos the lotofem. It could be because people are often used to seeing huge circuseseseseseses so they're figuring you three aren't the whole deal. I bet you've had fun with a few smart arse remarks to the after show questions.
High congratulations Aimée, Op SHops are good for ze clown clozez, as vell as plazes zat makeum stuff uhp. My Hat Of Many Colours may have been the cause of my clown question (hats...I shan't be bringing my topper for hat manip down to circus training this Sunday Taya cos I accidently lent it to a fellow for longer than I expected to when I didn't find him to collect it today. There's even more for a story there as it happens. I do have a heavyish fedora that works brill though and dosen't suit me.). What sort of character or characters are you looking at doing anyhow Aimée?

By 'all my props' I'm guessing you mean two staffs and a set of poi.

That's not a lot of different props there Sonny Jim.

I get it worse when I take out my staff, poi, contact balls, devilsticks, nunchuks, juggling balls, oh, and my jester hat and a Pyrowill for good measure! But it's not a competition to see who can do the most things...

I tend to just shut them up with some contact something or other... If that doesn't work, I tell them yes andd ignore them...

Only annoying thing about that is they pay you to drop, not to catch.

just so you know only jugglers who "LACK SKILL" are in the circus for juggling

umm

i think you are mistaking circus jugglers for hack clown jugglers.

and even then, it depends on the individual - there are some superb clown jugglers out there.

however, i'd say that if you are a juggler employed by a circus company as a juggler, then you probably have a pretty damn high skill level.

examples:

cirque du soleil have viktor kee in dralion and the 8 ball bounce juggling/tapdancing girl in saltimbanco.

circus oz have an amazing ethiopian juggler/contortionist touring with them right now.

then there is jerome thomas' 'cirque lili', the finnish 'circus ruska' (at least one member of which is one of jay gilligan's former students), 'circo aereo' who have a huge amount of talent...

the list goes on.

admittedly, many of these are very small companies, not full circus troupes but there is a reason they have chosen to have the word 'circus' in their group names - it implies professionalism, a certain history of influences and innovators, and a high level of both skill and entertainment.

imho, the top circus performers often represent the pinnacle of many of the arts we are talking about.

and back on topic:

my response to "are you a clown?" is generally "nope - i'm not funny enough to be a clown."

if i'm asked "are you in the circus" my answer will always be "i'm not good enough."

smile

and nate - nine clubs eek

if you're going by the 'one more club than you can do' rule, i'm gonna want some lessons from you! wink

cole. x

juggle cos the 3b cascade rocks wink

ubblol Classic.

Also, thanks for defending the decent circus jugglers Cole, I was going to respond with a cough and a deftly placed bullshit but that works so much better. At the Tasmanian Circus Festival this year there were some wonderful jugglers too...a troupe came down from NICA* and did a rather funny Juggle for Jesus bit, and heaps of people were freestyling. There were some very wonderful indeed solo acts too, one of them I unfortunatley don't remember the name of the guy performing, but he was brilliant and had fabulous pants.

*the National Institute of Circus Arts

Edit: On reflection I don't actually know how many of the freestylers and solo people were and are with circuses but large and unwieldy props to them anyway.
