hello there,

yesterday i finally swinged firepoi for the first time, with the firepoi i built myself (proud me biggrin )

when I was done I put the fires out in some water and when I got home i put them in parraffine again... but i wanted to lit them this night, and somehow it didn't work well. when i wanted to lit them it made some crispy sounds and when it finally burnt well the flames got out in a few swings (might be due to the fact is was windy?)...

and they turned quite darkish (brown/black) for most part.

is this all normal or am I just screwing up my poi?

Don't put them in water. The crispy sound is the remaining water boiling off. The water is most likely the reason they did not burn. Water and paraffin do not mix so the fuel was not absorbed by the wick. They should be ok if you let them dry out for a couple days. Next time you want to put them out, try smothering them with a damp towel.

The more you burn them the darker they will become. That is perfectly normal.

Congratulations on losing your fire virginity! and welcome to HoP!

and i heard something about keeping them away from (direct) sunlight? is it true that fireheads are vampiric and thus 'allergic' to sunlight?

I don't think fire poi... I've seen that warning on my globugs, plastic tends to melt if exposed to sunlight for a long time

i put them out by spinning them real fast.
after that i dip them in parrafin to make sure there is no internal fire.
works just fine for me.
