i don't know what a matrix is :S. I am also very lazy, and thus haven't searched. I guess it would be worth clarifying for this thread anyway :P.

I maintain that the single matrix is impossible. Ergo the double one is twice as impossible....

How come you know complicated stuff like matrix but don't know what a pinwheel is?

Mr Charles defines a pinwheel as "When the staff spins in a large vertical circle made up of smaller circles. Most common pattern for a continous BTB move." in his very helpful, but recently overlooked, [Old link] thread.

Yep I think that a pinwheel with one stick and a matrix with the other (both spin the same way) is what has been meant when the term double matrix has poped up on HoP. Nate, if you get your matrixs down then this should not be to hard to learn, as long as you are comfy with the pinwheel motion.

Imho the term double matrix is a bit misleading since you can do any number of things with one stick while the other is matrixing. You can also put two sticks together in a bundle and matrix them. cool

Or if you'er ben-ja-men you can put 2 sticks in a bundle and continually drop them tongue

So if you think the term is misleading would you like to suggest an alternate title?

1 staff matrix whilst the other staff minds it's own business and does it's own thing for a bit, for instance, isn't all that snappy.

Short snappy titles are the key in these things methinks wink

Yeah, double matrix is short and snappy. wink
I was just pointing out that there are more double staff moves involving a matrix. Somtimes labels can have an effect on the thoughts of the people that use them. So I am just making that small point, not saying it should have another name.
However if Cantus was to kidnap my family and force me to make a name for it...
eek
Dunno??? Maybe pinwheel matrix?

I do something which is a bit like a split matrix - one staff does the first half, and the other staff does the second half:

Spinning both parallel in horizontal plane, holding 3/4 of the way down the staff at the near end, moving right to left across your body,

- Place the staff in your right hand onto your left shoulder/bicep for a normal matrix. Left hand staff carries on around the back

- As you bend forwards, the right hand reaches round your back to grab the right staff

- As you straighten up, the left arm puts the left staff under your right armpit, so it walks up to the shoulder and across the throat.

It's not exactly a matrix, but it has a similar feel.

Hope that helps biggrin

Very well translated in to english too (at least when one thinks just how confusing that could have goten)...
The movment you are doing with the first stick is also a great club move.

Nate, check out the HoP free sticky lesson # 5. This is a pinwheel. Do that, then bend the world 90o so that it is in a nice flat plane above your matrix. wink

Ok bit theroetical at the moment but i almost made it work last night..........

Double matrix....

Rather than pinwheeling the second staff overhead, follow the matrixing staff (starting going round left arm) left arm passes to right behind the back (while matrixing staff is on back of neck).

As matrixing staff goes around right shoulder the second staff is in right hand..........

Make sense?

Hope so,

Need to practice much much much more.......... rolleyes

confused

OK so i may be a muppet, let me try again, ignoring the matrixing staff this time.

Version above:

As your leaning over the staff pinwheels above your head in left hand, passes to right while maintaining above head position - horizontal.

My Feeble attempt at describing:

Left hand pinwheel, but then taking behind your back and passing to the right hand, which then lead back to above the head... pinwheel.....

So i agree pinwheeling - yes, i execpt muppentness, howeve i still feel that this is differant to what is described above...........

Muppet biggrin
