Thread hijak!

well i have a slow internet connection so though i can sorta listen to triple j it breaks up plus time difference sucks. which is sad because i have such fond memories of driving back from work through harbor tunnel traffic listening to merrick and rosso doing a terrible german accent prank call.

also loved friday mornings driving to study site when paul mcdermott was on with sandman and mikey doing Captain Pants and the weather game...that was some years ago tho

10 points for bogan humor if you can still sing the captain pants theme song...

Dude.. How many points do you get if you've BEEN to a Bauahaus show?
lol

I also think we need some absinthe-sippers points up in here.

And what about those who are so goth they fart bats? (heehee)

Erm.. and those who get children pointing at a (guy) goth and saying "mommy, I want to be just like HER"
teehee

And, there should be some sort of boots points:
1 point for every inch (height) that your boot is
extra point for every zipper
extra point for every buckle

man, I could go on all day.. High school goth days were so great. haha!

I'm trying to remember this great insta-goth site. FUCK! what was it?!?! ah, yes:

https://www.sykospark.net/goth/

and there's also a bunch of other 'insta's" on there, including rivethead, punk, and candyraver. heehee

How many do I get for having not only met, but hung out with Lux and Ivy from the Cramps? They gave me an autographed picture and a huge pill box, too.

Look what i found....

I was searching along, had a read of this and realised exactly how innaccurate it is.

The only remotely 'gothic' word i found in this entire thread was "Bauahaus" Thankyou to the lovely person who mentioned this.

May i say that the following list of people/things are not even *close* to goth:
Manson
Slipknot
Cradle of Filth
Crow makeup

I'm all for poetry, but if depressing and sad, i dont want to hear it called 'goth'

I'm on a site called vampirefreaks, a profile site dedicated to gothic and industrial culture. I cant go a day without seeing some sad little baby goth wearing crow makeup, dressing all in black and saying they ate themselves and their life and listening to metal.
I am sick and tired of the stigma we get.
I cant go out clubbing without people screaming "freak" or "goth" or "manson lover".
Manson. Isnt. Goth.
However, in all fairness, alot of goths do listen to Nine Inch Nails...i went to their concert *blush*
People should do their research:

The cure
Sisters of Mercy
Fields of the Nephilim
Bauhaus
Siouxie and the Banshees
Cruxshadows
etc etc etc.
I will give 10,000 points to the next "goth" who says they actually like any of the above bands.
And a gigantic kiss.

I have the same rant about punk, but i'm not "punk" so i cant whinge...

Hey, if i was a goth, would i get 1892 points for not giving a crap about how many points i get? Cos i really don't see the point in getting right into a genre of clothing/music/headspace/etc that's supposed to express one's individuality, and then feeling the need to go 'yeah, well i'm soo much more goth than you are.' Just another case of 'i need to be like everyone else, and be better at it than all the others, too' is what it sounds like.

But i'm a cynical, average, non-bogan aussie male who's idea of expressing himself is saying '[censored]' a few times and at various pitches.

What cracks me up is when people call me goth. Anyone who knows me would not lable me as such, and it just goes to show how most people haven't the faintest idea about the goth lifestyle/culture, not just the way they dress. I wear baggy jeans and band t shirts. Yes, I spend a fair bit of time in black stuff (ok, so I own about 3 tops that aren't black!) but how the HELL does this make me goth? Steer clear of stereotypes altogther, and life will suddenly seem a whole lot happier!

It seems that 90% of regular people dont know what actual Gothic music is.

Say goth and they think Marylin manson. NIN. Slipknot. COF

Real Goth style music

can one embrace the gothic lifestyle without the music? Or, to better word the question, is there any one thing that defineably makes one a goth?

How about Gravers? I read somewhere it's like combining vampire fangs and glowsticks. Something like a cyber goth... but without that wicked hairstyle, or the metallic stuff, or those boots... cyber goths are sexy...anyway that's neither here nor there. But I'm talking just the generic sterotypical image of each. The best is making the style your own. Anyway, isn't Manson is the poster child for goth, sure, but isn't his music something along the lines of shock rock?

Don't mind me, just passing through.

Yeah Mansons stuff is shock rock..ish.
I think.

You can embrace the whole "goth" thing and hate the music, that makes you a pseudo goth.

Gravers are just goths that go to raves. I got called on, once, but thats because i had boot covers on.

so, one that listens to/follows that sorta music is a goth? The music does, in fact, define the genre/culture?

In that case, someone wearing faded blue jeans and a tshirt could, conceivably be a goth, but isn't dressing like one?

I think i kinda get it.

But, the gothic era was 12-15th century europe, which didn't really involve massive boots, multicoloured hair, makeup or getting arrested.

So back to the points thing: how many do i get walking down the street with Pink and Cantus and having some mini chavs ask us for cigarettes, get a negative reply and then have them say
"why did you ask the goths?"
us: "goths?? huh??"
mini chavs: "punks - whatever!!!"

one of my friends is now goth by association (ie, most of her new friends this year are goths.) so im trying to understand the culture past the stereotypes so i can understand what she's on about half the time (nettle, if you are reading this, hun, YOU CONFUSE ME!!!!)

i would have changed ***** to phallus, and claire to petey Petey
