What aspects of fire staff construction are important to look for when buying one?
There seem to be quite a few different designs and I'd like to make the right choice.
Having a staff that breaks down into parts for travelling makes alot of sense to me.
Any ideas?

is a good link into all good threads on making staffs. It also gives pointers on what to look for in choosing your staff; length is important, as is having a staff that can travel easily. Mine doesn't!
To be honest the best staff for you to buy is right here in the HOP shop, the 3 part staff which you can break down and adjust to different lengths.

Garbo, i cannot know until i handle a leopard staff, but generally telescopic staves aren't as secure as screwed in staves. click-on connections are strong enough for vacuum cleaner tube extensions, but will it handle the stresses of being twirled? To be confident of the strength of one's firetoy has a very real impact on one's twirling. it's only common sense.
raph, it's Callum's 'innercore' 3 piece breakdown staff. you can even see the 'concentrate' logo on the staff. i have have tried many staves, and this staff is head and shoulders the most professional staff i have ever twirled. 'nuff said! made in melbourne, baby!

I personally prefer to make my own, it is easy and totally customisable. Most that are on sale that I have seen have been really crappy!!!!

I would say that it all comes down to personal preference.
I had to design and build my own staff because no one carried what I wanted. Most of the people I know are really pretty spicific about what they look for in a staff, and I have never heard a concensus on one uberstaff.
So I would suggest play with all of your friend's staffs, and spin everything that looks like a staff untill you figure out exactly what you want, then find someone who sells it or build your own.
