Im planning on making a new staff soon that will be far superior to my current one which is made from Aluminium (I think)
I was planning on sticking with Al and have just learnt that putting a wooden core in your staff stops it from bending...........which is exactly why Im making a new one!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what would be the best kind of wood to use for a core? It needs to have some flex but be quite strong.

Also, any info on fixing wicks would be appreciated, Im using double wicks.

The actual question is about the Ali istelf and the quality of it.

The Spec is: AI Mg Si 0,5. F22. Yeild Strentgh 215. Brinnel Hardness 70.

I dont really know what any of that stuff means. Can anybody explain it to me?

Turns out this kind of Ali bends when dropped really hard. Or do they all.

Im sure i read in a thread that you could get a spec the wouldnt bend so easy. Extruded?

Its possible that i could get annodised (sp?) but thats bound to be a bit more expensive than what im paying.

So made another one today but this time i put the dowel all the way through. Damn its heavy.

Seems to help with the contact though.

The weight seems to help me drop is less though. If that makes any sense

I manufacture all of my staffs from extruded 1.5 or 2 mm marine grade duralimin, I've never had one bend on me yet, considering the abuse that teaching myself staff has inflicted, just in the process of putting together an 11 foot quad burner, thats right, eight wicks, for use on my four foot stilts, thats going to have something like 16 foot of four inch kevlar. Typically though i make five to eight foot staffs, using 1.5mm, good solid weight etc,
