See he's an insomniac so he can't sleep. He's agnostic so he's not sure if he believes in God or not. And he's dyslexic so he gets his letters jumbled....

so he stayed up all night wondering if there was a dog.

Simple really...

Just a short cultural bracket about dyslexia:
Dyslexic people, in severe cases, usually scarmble their letters anyways, so scrambled letters in a word do little difference. I've been diagnosed with severe dislexia, though I only just found out last year
What I've noticed (and that has been confirmed with me) is that I don't even make the difference between a properly spelled word and a mixed up word (like those above), though the first and last letter are important, and when it's plural and takes an 's' at the end, the last two letters are important.
I've spoken to people who study neuropsychology, more specifically language patterns, and apparently, we dyslexic folk just fill in the gaps, more easily so if there is a context. This makes it a pain in the ass when new words are introduced that have similar letters to words that are already known.
Cultural bracket closed.
