Hi!!

Some of you may remember me.... I'm flash fire and have been on long-service leave for the past 6 months or so. A long time member, moderator and once noisy contributor.

For those of you who know me, I have been undergoing a transformation of sorts over the last several months. I am growing into the person I want to be, rather than the character that situations oblige me to adopt. I have opened up spiritually and am making babysteps on my path of fulfillment.

The joy really is in the journey.

I have been seeing a naturopath for the last 4 months and have never felt better. I am vegetarian, wheat-free and dairy-free. I have cut my hip-length hair to my shoulders and shed 8kgs. I exercise daily and enjoy cooking gourmet vego food.

I made the decision to chase my dreams, rather than indulge in discontent. I am working on forgiving myself for past transgressions and living on the positive side of our spectrum. I haven't poisoned my system with synthetic joy for a long time.

I haven't picked up my fire sticks in about 6 months, but transitional periods do that to me. I have been firedancing since 1997, so the occasional 6month long break is okay I think.

anyway, enough pondering from me! Would love to hear from my HOP friends, both old and new.

kiss

Flash Fire pretty much invented the concept of intro threads (well, that may be a sligt exageration, but she definitely pioneered their usage) way back in about 2001.

What you really need to keep your intro afloat is for brainstorma to come in every few days and have a panic attack like he does with mine.

I just got my hair cut again.

It had grown to half-way down my back and was all blonde and cool textured layers. Now, it's just below my shoulders and more brown than blonde. It's gonna take me a while to get used to not have flowing golden locks to attract attention with. However, the cut goes nicely with my new tres-groovy glasses smile

Hey FLASH
I just got my hair cut too cos an Evil Hairdresser massacred it ( looked like she'd attacked a ponytail with a hack saw!!!) She manage to cut cowlicks and split ends into it; 'layers' she called them. I looked like white trash on a very bad hair day indeed! So a Good Fairy Godmother Hairdresser saved me...now I have it super short at the back and coming down to long points in the front and it's CUTE!! and sassy and feels really light... something positive came out of it.. Bearing in mind what you said a while ago about ego and stuff locked in our hair... Letting go time!!

I am also going though some changes re work.. letting go of something that has been disrespectful and making more time for something I feel more connected to ... even a few days into it and it's feeling better already! . And one of the changes is that I've been prepared to be quite hardarsed about making the change, not apologise and try to have everyone like me!!! How did your big Change go moving on from the backpackers to the entertainment guide??

And aha, this might be the place to ask... I am thinking of coming down to Sydney in the next few weeks.. Where are the spinner jams/play places in a Sydney?? Can anyone tell me??

.....Can't juggle balls but I sure as hell can juggle details....

So, my new haircut wasn't as fab as I had hoped.

The day after I had it done, one friend said I looked 30. Later that night another friend said "hmmm, I dunno flash. I can't decide whether it makes you look more intelligent, or more like a lesbian"

Great. Now I'm a 30 yr old dyke with a penchant for books.

heh. Not too far from the truth, uncannily enough.

Here's a little something I composed yesterday:

Saturday morning, glorious sunshine. Sitting in my PJs, drinking coffee on my deck I wondered what was in store for me that day. I knew it was going to be motorcycle related; since purchasing my first bike 6 weeks ago, my weekends have consisted of little else.

After putting on a load of washing (front loader, takes over 1.5hrs per load, quite ridiculous really) I decided it was time to modify my bike. Not that I have ever been over 80kmph, Mr Policeman, but if I had, I'm sure the turbulence from being on a naked bike would be quite unforgiving and that I would find a weathershield of great benefit. So I jumped on Jade (Honda Spada 250) and arrived shortly thereafter at MCA in the city, where the boys (for once) were very attentive and helpful. I purchased a funky National Cycles F18 screen and had been promised by one of the lads that if I couldn't fit the shield to the bike myself, he would be more than happy to come over to my house and assist.

After 90% fitting the shield to Jade, I was forced to request assistance. Not of the MCA guy, rather of my wonderful partner Jordan (who shall remain unaware of the MCA guy's offer). I was a little miffed that I couldn't do the whole thing all by myself, cos I'm a tough motorcycle chick now and don't need no help from no-one! (yeah, right).

Anyway, after consulting the map Jordan and I decided to test out my new bike mods by going to the Royal National Park. On one condition: I needed to be home before nightfall - gotta get that washing dry! We set off, got lost a couple of times, and eventually found our way into RNP by about 3.00pm. Later than we had hoped, but we were there and might as well continue on. At this point in the story I must let the readers know that although I commute daily on the bike and had done a little weekend riding, I had zero experience on twisty roads. (Jordan also on his L's, but has ridden dirt bikes for years). I had also managed to psych myself out by over-dramatizing the potential for disaster (am prone to doing this when outside my comfort zone) and was very tense as I entered the RNP.

With my shoulders up around my ears and my eyes wide open I negotiated the road all the way to Bundeena. I tried several times to relax into the bike, lean into the corners and even place an ounce of trust in the tyres but the only correct thing I did was turning my head to look around the corners. I felt terribly disappointed in myself, as I had thought I was doing well as a learner up until now; perhaps even a 'natural'. This feeling of disappointment was compounded when 3 riders flew around a corner in the opposite direction with knees barely an inch from the ground whilst I was there doing not a blip more than the suggested speed of 35kmph.

I had let Jordan go on ahead, as he has much more experience, and I didn't want to slow him down, or try to keep up. Several minutes down the road he waited for me, took off then repeated the process a few times all the way to the Bundeena turn off. I have a slight competitive streak and was wanting very much to be able to keep up with the boy but I was beginning to lose my nerve. The corners aren't even bad; I was frustrated at my own silliness and couldn't rationalise my increasing fear.

Bundeena is gorgeous. When I'm 40 I'm going to move there, get a dog and take up pottery. We sat on the beach and I watched the tide turn and the sun slowly sink into the horizon. Lovely sunset, but dammit - I really don't like riding at night (except in the city) as my night vision is poor and the road unfamiliar.

Jordan was aware of my uneasiness and (the doll) decided to 'lead' me around the corners, letting me follow his line and taking it slowly. The fact that I waved past each car that came up behind me soon meant that Jordan and I were separated and I was again on my own, feeling even more anxious, cold and blind. Relax? What's that? Tears had started to form in my eyes and my breathing was getting all too panicky. I was beginning to remind myself of those stupid whiny girls on the TV show "The Amazing Race" and told myself to cut it out, suck it up and deal with it (I have often had to call on this philosophy, particularly when deep in canyons and at the top of double black diamond ski runs). I had to get myself out; I had no other option. Brake, change down, look and lean - it's not hard so WHY CAN'T I DO IT!...

Finally we passed the entrance gate to the RNP - I was shaky, nearly crying and utterly dismayed at my lack of riding prowess. Jordan was wonderfully comforting and encouraging, telling me I had achieved something and should be proud of myself blah blah blah. I left my visor closed and shook my head; I couldn't even look at him as I was so ashamed of myself; angry that I was emotionally reacting to not being an amazing & talented motorcycle rider. I just wanted to get home, call my best friend and have a cry. However, we were a long way from home and as I mentioned, I had completely lost my nerve. I recall at one stage actually yelling inside my helmet in an attempt to rid myself of pent up emotion. A strange thing happened when we turned onto Canterbury Rd: I regained my confidence. I realised then that I actually *prefer* riding in traffic and feel comfortable in it. How backwards is that?! An open road with no other vehicles scares me, but a dual carriageway consisting of hazard after hazard finds me gunning it

I learnt a few things that day. Firstly, I'm not going to be an expert at anything the first time I do it. Secondly, there is a lot more to riding than commuting in traffic and turning your head in corners, and thirdly, don't do your first ride in the twisties at night with a severe case of PMS.

Thanks to all who have read this far!
