Kinda scared about starting this thread cos i have a bad history of starting thread that already exist BUT i have done an extensive search and im pretty sure that this thread is completely new!!

i was just out in the garden having a bit of a spin, and i thought "hmmm i wonder what other people are trying to learn at the moment" and decided it would be agreat insight into the future of poi and where people were heading, and serve as inspiration to people who are a bit stuck. There is the obvious "oooh ive just learnt this" thread stuck at the top, but i thought it'd be good to hear what problems people are having with the moves while they are learning them, and how the over come them so other people can look and discover ways they might not have thought of.

so start your replies with "This Week I Am Mostly Learning....."

This Week I Am Mostly Learning.....3bt btb weaves, reverse5bt weave, and trying to work out 6bt TTN aswell as forward7bt weave. Problems?? loads, but these moves ( wink):
3btbtb weave, i keep hitting myself in the head, but im slowly getting the timing down,
Reverse 5bt, my wrists dont seem to like it, still working on timing, again keep hitting myself in the head ubbrollsmile
6btTTN again, the wrists are complaining, and the timing keeps going off
Forward7bt, i got a few beats the otehr night but i lost it now frown confused

Well, after Bow & Flare theory. I'm going to make:

Theo(r)ist

-Video bio project mapping performance of Richee.

Young lady ilustrated primer

-Putting sphercular ball project page in czech

language onto a single mini CD book.

C-Complex

-Like B-Complex, but much colorfull.

Walrus

-3D spherical map of Poi terminiology.

Valurus

-Lot of Poi terminiology to sort out and filling.

Space

-Still looking for house, training room. Place

for people in Prague for spinning and per-

formance art.

Introversion, Notcoleman3

-Rev's knowing!

This will take a lot form this year, may something

to be shifted into the next one. The space seems

to be the core missing part in here.

ive been working on lots of upwards stalls with both hands. a move that was christened the midairwrap (where you throw both poi they airwrap, untangle and then you catch them ubbrollsmile). another move where you kind of do a suicide airwrap and then throw the whole tangle so it rotates around 180 degrees, and then you catch it and exit the tangle. lots of wibbling stuff aswell...

isolations and tangles. Specifically Im trying to learn how to do a butterfly inversion, forwards and reverse. Its been a beastly sight harder than inverted weaves for me.

am getting the continuos buzzsaw hyperloop style tricks going now,

just trying to be able to turn 180 to keep it going in the other direction, as i can only keep it continuous when the pois are spinning towards me. but when they are ive got it solid,

antispins with left arm spank not. quite . . . .there

lots of legwork - dunno the terminology!

I've been working on teaching more than anything else.

As for my own routine I've been working on two tricks.

Breathing plumes off my own poi from buzzsaws, weaves, and flowers.

Breathing plumes off poi that someone else is spinning.
(I can do it, just the timing isn't always perfect to get those big plumes.)

I've been working on a butterfly / buzzsaw / hyperloop thing and I've pulled it off a couple of times but i don't have the move right in my head so I can't do it on command

Hints to anybody else that attempts to figure out what I'm on about.

Start a buterfly / buzzsaw then get the tangle and turn 180 through the hyperloop phase and then untangle on the other side. Everything has to flow smothlyish and your timing needs to be spot on otherwise you end up with a big nasty tangle.

If anybody knows what this move is called then please let me know.

May my balls of fire set your balls on fire devil

Currently working on buzzsaw flowers (spin/antispin) which I reckon is including one more point of rotation than normal flowers. Move the buzzsaw in a circle then make each circle a petal of a flower/compound circle.

Butterfly stalls into same direction stalls and back again.

An inverse variation of the antispin, butterfly box type move. Not sure if this has a name or if I'm describing it right. It's the one where you are in wall plane with arms in front of you one directly above the other. Poi spinning in split time butterfly so the poi heads meet when the hit the bottom/top of their circle. Push your arms from 1 side to the other, switch the one that is oon top and send them back. Your hands should be making a rectangular shape.

The other thing I'm doing is starting to write down all the things I do with poi then work out their variations. This, I realised yesterday, will make it much easier to link moves together by matching up the variations smile

I’ve also been trying to get a butterfly box type move but my arms refuse to do it - I’m hoping they will be persuaded though practice.

Various stalls… grrr – well there has been some progress but still need to get them clean.

My new holy grail at the moment (formally btb weave which I got couple of weeks ago) is a continuous hyperloop thing but I think that’s a long way off as I’ve only just got the hang of a basic hyperloop!

You should have said, I would have been more than happy to give you some pointers while I was up your way. Mind you I was probably too busy doing silly throws with Chutney...

Next time maybe smile

Now working on airwraps - the only problem is untangling:) Flowers, which I am always lazy to practice but have to. Somehow the second month of learning takes a bit more effort to find something to work on.

I'm currently working on the behind the back 3-beat and 5-beat. Not even close on accomplishing this goal. Would it better with a sock poi or a stringed poi? i have a stringed poi with an optional tail.

I find it good to set things aside once in a while and come back much later with a fresh perspective. Sometimes all it takes is having learned a different trick first for you to comprehend those moves that are frustrating to learn.

What am I working on? Hmm... one-handed butterfly (with turns), waistwrap weaves (and waistwrap butterflies), superduperuberloops (or at least saying it), hyperloop throws, and between the leg butterfly weaves (and utl buzzsaws).

Nothing wrong with that. smile In fact, I need to do more of the basics. I got so wrapped up on btb waistwraps, Im no longer capable of doing a simple 2bt chase. ubbloco

curently working on a kind of scissor kick corkscrew jump thingy - from corkscrew bring one (or mabye two smile ) hands down and spin the poi under your legs while scissor kicking over it. hardest part is finding a place to practice where i don't either demolish my possesions or look like a crazy prat smile

Buy gerbils cos you can't spin with hamsters
