I think i just injured myself with tennis ball poi. Well, not just, it's been about an hour and a half. Seriously, i was working on the ever elusive fwds btb weave, and i smacked myself solid at teh base of my neck. stung like crazy but i figured whatever, like i was spinning fast or something? But it's been an hour and a half since impact, and it still hurts wicked bad and further it's like a kinda sore hurt, i dunno, but i've been wanting to cry this past half hour, it's way not comfortable.

Can't imagine i did something, but... anyone know?

ummmm kinda hard to tell without being able to see it?
You may have pinched a nerve, or bruised yourself. Have you tried gentle neck stretches.... or looking at the spot in the mirror? something sharp may have attached itself to your poi and you may have cut yourself *shrug* stranger things have happened!

And remember! if in doubt, get thee to a doctor! better safe than sorry!

(personally im guessing you may have whacked a bee into your neck..... that would explain the stingy bit..... Ice is good for bees! get someone to see if there's a stinger!)

only it's dark out so no bees. but a good idea that was. no marks at all, i've looked at it. and it's not a mark sort of hurt really. it's more of a sore achy sort of hurt only not. does taht make sense?

i'm anti-doctor. but if it's still a problem sunday i'll go in monday. or something liek that.

Kyrian,

I have seen people do the craziest things. You can injure yourself with a feather if you try hard enough.

It just takes extreme talent in clumsiness and foolishness.

As a gymnast, i can tell you that ice until the swelling goes down or until its not so tender to touch, then heat until you can move it properly again without pain will fix anything sore! except for cuts and stuff, but im talking muscles here....
and yes you can hurt yourself on ANYTHING, i am the queen of unco-ness who can do cool flippy stuff without hurting herself, then tear a ligament walking on a 30cm thick soft crashmat (true!)

I have no medical opinion but want to give you a hug and do you want me to get you some ice ?

seriously though ... wait until tomorrow and if it feels worse... please do go see a doctor ...

BTB anything seem to turn any fluffy poi into an evil tool of torture, you know ... there has to be a curse ... I think we should try and investigate this week end Cantus ? Ros ? Dom ? Dibs ? you with me ... we'll let you know teh results Kyrian

take care sweet sister

Lets get a nice cold compress on that neck and hope it eases it It sounds like you smacked the center of your neck where the bones have very little skin/muscle covering them and that can hurt a lot but should heal fairly quickly if looked after.

OUCHY!

I once gave myself the largest lump I've ever had from my poi. I was only doing a horizontal wave, and I swear I wasn't going that fast, then BAM! I saw stars and reached up to feel my forhead. Twas the size of a golfball, and stayed purple for two weeks!

Who says tennis balls aren't lethal?!!

making jokes and all ... but would actually love you to post in here, sister and erassure me about how you feel...

tennis balls aren't that dangerous, but necks are always sensitive areas...

if you're out of danger and feeling better this week end, remember to ask Kali for one of her magic massages

Kyrian ? you there princess ???

I've had a few spectacular tennis ball related injuries in the past few months. The one that hurt the worst was chain whip related. I missed a kick wrap and somehow (I haven't figured out exactly how this was even phisicly possible yet) hit myself 1/2inch below and behind my ankle bone on the inside of my foot. Immediately it felt like my boot filled with freezing ice water and was spilling out over the top. I have been in martial arts for a long time, and I've learned a lot of nifty little pressure points, but I have never felt anything like this before. I thought that I had hit some weird Dim Mak (Death Touch) pressure point and that my leg was never going to work again. I couldn't even stand up for twenty minutes. All this with a tennis ball........

ahhhhhh you guys are weak! weak i tell you!

when i started learning poi, i made my own poi out of nylon rope and wooden balls.

Now THEY leave some excellent bruises. Completely perfect circles all over me, i looked like i had giant purple measles.... Not to mention the concussion i gave myself one time ` hehehe then there was the time i ripped my eyebrow stud half out of my head from the chain poi...
ahhhh the pain of learning!

Sounds like a classic case of spider eggs to me.

You probably just ruptured a sack of eggs that a spider layed in the back of your neck while you were sleeping. Once they all hatch you should start feeling much better.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
