hi.
i dont know if this is a move that has been named or what, so i was wondering if you could help me...
i'd do a search but i dont know what to search for so if you wanted to tell me to do a search, then by all means, what should i search for?

spinning the poi on horizontal planes on either side of your body, in opposite directions (ie right hand poi goes down forward up back and left hand poi goes down back up forward) in an alternate beat, spinning through a 3-beat weave.

firstly, whats this called?
secondly, has anyone done it?
thirdly, thanks.

no problem.
i did a durbs and figured out it wasnt a butterfly, but rather a
reverse split-time 3 beat weave
(or something - i cant find the thread that had the name... but it was real cool and reminded me of how german words are real long...)

you could call it the 'horizontal mexican weave' if you wanted. I don't think that's taken and mexican-ness apparently implies cross-body seperation.

it might make a good stumper for the 'insides' thread as to whether this contains inversions. as diagrammed above, it's just a seperated corkscrew though, basically. if you're doing it longarm and turning, you've got horizontal flowers. without turning, i dunno. 'seperated longarm corkscrew' or something, maybe. you'll prolly just have to end up explaining it everytime, anyways. especially if it's a 'horizontal butterfly weave' instead of a corkscrew.

horizontal butterfly weave sounds like a good bet to me.

however, seeing as the corkscrew is really just a horizontal windmill, maybe this move needs a whole new name for itself too smile

So is this a butterfly or weave pattern? I've been playing with a few possibilities and found I can't do much of anything in the butterfly pattern when the poi are spinning in a horizontal plane.

Horizontal buzzsaw in butterfly, yes but I sure can't get the butterfly, or the regular three beat weave going in the horiz. plane.

If this is in a weave pattern, I suspect it's a "corkscrew in front of you" no problems to do in the four beat, which I guess would a great way to get into Dut's horizontal flowers

Have you seen the Taming Fire site? they have a video clip of something like this.

I am a bit confused by the definition - it is horizontal, yet the poi are going up and down - OK makes sense - up and down within the horizontal plane... but somehow weaving AND in oppsite directions. I'm having trouble visualising this, but have I understood it correctly? If so that's not just a split-time butterfly weave.
confused down, forward, up, back - that doesn't sound horizontal, but diagonal somehow. And if the poi are on either side of your body, how do you weave them in and out of each other within a horizontal plane whilst managing to keep your legs and body out of the way, and not tangling the poi.

ubblol Oh good call Cole. In fact, we should name every degree of move. So like if you're doing a weave and leaning slightly back we'll call that the 'Fat Joe'. wink

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
