Hey all:

Have just recently joined the forums here, and dove right in posting a discussion topic, but thought maybe I should make a more formal introduction.

I'm going by blueboy because my favorite things to spin are these blue glow poi (yes yes blue balls i know i know... ubblol) and the name firemonkey was taken. (are you around? who are you firemonkey?) I like the blue glow poi because I always imagined that if I had superpowers of some kind, they would manifest as blue energy. And with that my geekdom has been revealed in its full glory! ubbloco

I live in San Francisco and work as a grants administrator for one of the City's municipal arts funding agencies. I've worked in the non-profit arts for most of my working life. I'm also a poet (some of my work can be read here:the imperfection of holy days ). But I'm taking a break from poetry because I've become completely obsessed with poi. All day I dream about poi: moves I'm working out, new moves I want to learn, poi I want to make etc. etc. You all know how it is. Anyway, it's interesting moving from an artform that is more mental and language-based to one that is based in the body and movement.

I've seen random people spinning in the parks here in S.F. and the first time I saw it with fire I was blown away. But my reaction then was "oh I could never do that" then came Burning Man...and watching the fire dancers the night of the burn made me want to be one of them next year, and so that's my goal now. It's what got me on this path anyway, but I know I'll keep spinning even if I never make it to the Playa again.

Out of curiosity: does everyone here spin fire? And I also wonder, for how many of you is poi the main thing and fire is just another object to spin, versus fire being what it's all about?

Looking forward to meeting and conversing with you all.

A: Have the fairy folk come to get you? I suppose you won't be answering if they have...do they like poi? I'd imagine they would.

Have a safe & beautiful trip. Let me know if you pass through S.F. again like last time!!! Do I want anything? You know, I do like those silk pants, the kind that wrap around? I brought a pair to Burning Man and now of course they're thrashed. Dusty and distressed during days in the desert.

It's late and I'm alliterating. Time for beddy-bye for me. I shall dream of spinning & cj'ing for the fairies. hug

Hmmn... guess it depends on the definition of fairies? ;-) Sweet though.

At any rate I am back. lesson: Must learn to say no sometimes, there is this one particular person I sort of just find myself saying yes to, sort of sliding into things, slippery slope like, and then afterwards my mind kicks in a panic saying what the hell! no no no.... Hmmn. Guess thats a long story for when I see ya!

Colour of pants? I will certainly bring a pair... Flight thru Seattle this time :-( but I will mail them or hold on til I see you in may...

loads of love to you,
I love alliteration, by the way, makes me smile!

Hi ya GB, hi Andrea. Birthday was a nice subdued affair this year. Once you're past 30 though, I sort of feel that only birthdays ending in 5 and 0 are worth celebrating.

Pffffft Rubbish! I'm past 30 and I think celebrating birthdays is fun, especially if when you reach 30 you start to celebrate backwards. By that I mean that with each extra year you celebrate more like you would the year before until you work your way back to the falling asleep head first into your cake years. ubblol

I don't recall seeing this last I was here. How could that be? Anyway Skully, I shall look forward to falling asleep into my cake... mmmmm....cake... ubblove

I really need to get better at responding to posts in a timely fashion. ubblol

Hello Khan,!
Just got back, what a lovely adventure. Full of sweetness , wild romance, much tigerbalming of nipples, sparkles, swimming, playing, yummm... Learned a lot too, all sorts of weird witchy wonders to work on now I am back.

Got a pair of wrap pants for you, not silk, but look it, a gorgeous firey flashy red. Shall I send them, or can Iure you here ?

I am doing a trip to NY soonish, like a month or so, want to come? Or hope about joining me at the EJC? I think I will likely attend, after a trip to Scotland and England to revisit the plans that got cut tragicaly short last year. I am a bit tipsy for a sexy brit these days, so anticipate spending some time out that part of the world...

I think Dan and I will try to link some of our travels out that way, would love to see ya too!

New? Whats new?
Poetry please?
love ya,
Andrea

Andrea! Welcome home. Wild romance + tigerbalm + sexy brit! How delightful. And weird witchy wonders...the world needs more & I'm glad the knowledge spreads.

I am certainly lur-able...I'm hoping to come up for ubercanada if that's still a go, but haven't seen or heard anything about it. When is the EJC? It's in Belfast this year, yes? I do have a lot of vacation time racked up so I'm awfully tempted, plus I'd love to go to London and meet the spinny juggly people there. oh oh oh temptation...but NY may be more do-able. Are you going to NYC or elsewhere? For how long?

Newness: I'm performing in a troupe with Heraclitus, GlitterGirl and other San Francisco firey-spinny folk who are not on HoP and we're getting a show together for Union Square in downtown SF in April. Lots and lots of practices, but I'm very excited about what we've put together. I've also just put the finishing touches on a poetry manuscript in the works for four years (3 years writing/revising, 1 year sitting in a file folder). I could send/bring you a copy of the manuscript if you like, but it's not in book form like the one I sent you last summer or fall or whenever that was. I'm proud of the work though, and may do another handmade edition...if I ever manage to make time when I'm not playing with some flow tool.

I've also begun work on a solo performance that will incorporate spoken word/storytelling/ritual with poi, contact juggling, hoop and possibly toss juggling -- if not in the first version of the show then in subsequent versions. Have made great strides with poi in the past few months, and the cj & hoop are coming along. I'm aiming to do the show in January. That'll be my next writing project...there will be poetry in it but it won't be all poetry.

And I may be getting a promotion at work in the fall.

That's it in a nutshell. Feeling really in the flow and engaged these days on all levels.

As to the pants, I'd say I'll get them from you when I see you, but I want 'em, I want 'em! gimme gimme! And, thank you!

whoa, your life sounds exciting! i really would love to see the writing even before it is formatted, please please...send it on! Congrats on finishing!beer:

NY trip, is all about the city. Will likely being staying with a few days each with two good friends there, playing a lot, and looking for a gallery or a rep to carry my work. Hence, it is officially a business trip. Gotta like that! My young guy from here may come along, if he gets a break at that time. I got a free ticket from anywhere to anywhere inNA/Mexico, and I am pretty sure that is where I will use it. Will know dates more when Zamir gets back to me( did you meet him in Van? )

But, I really think the way your flow toy obsession has developed, you should budget holiday time and money and do the UK/Ireland thing with me, that will give us the most spin play time!bounce Yay!

And if we are all lucky, you can meet my new beau
ubblove . ( yeah, I know that is not as exciting for you as me, but ah well. You'll like him! He does not spin though, Yet ;-),Dances like a wild creature, flowing all night and into the dawn. Sigh) He is all lit up for me, this guy, and for the first time in a while I am pretty head over heels. Happy, reciprocated, balanced ( well okay love is never all that balanced, but still...) Distance being distance, who knows, and I am sorta kinda seeing someone here on occasion ( one of the underage bunch though eek , a plaque upon all the twentie somethings that ask me out,I just can not resist! Fun, not serious.) Mischief. Back to my old self I guess!ubblol

What poi developments? What are you working on? Vid clips I can see? Wish I could se the show! Film it for sure! I did some major poi/damce growth on this trip, even performing for people, which is something I never do! It impresses me muchly the way you do so freely . But I need lots of work there, just to get over the mind block. I am so stupidly stubborn sometimes.

Met a guy who really inspired my spinning,he is so unique, taking it into new places. Hope to see him when he gets back in a few months, could learn a lot from his style. Lots of short rapid timed movement, very unusual. And he likes mine ( I am waaaay flowy compared to him), so we can do a good exchange of skills. Meanwhile I plug along with some personal poi goals, like getting an isolated buzzsaw, and various wraps et al, tosses and catches, though that changes my whole grip system so not sure if I want to go far down that path. Filming with a pal soon, for some Ganga Giri visuals and general mayhem, fun. Oud( Thai guy) gave me some wicked poi from uv reactive fishing floats, Friday night a big dance to try them out!

Hooping, me also addicted! Saw a man that blew my mind, think his name is Franscesco( sp?) . He might even be from your city man, watch out for him! (I will send a pic so you can do so!) Spins the hoops like poi, hoops them, breaks through them, tosses, tunmles- things that had never even occurred to me as possible. Sexy as hell, but mostly I was just awed by the flow!I had no idea one could dosuch things with a hoop! What a dancer...

Ah, shoulda pmed this, but what the hell, too late now...
big hug, tickles, hello from Katya, meows from the cats
