Things have been so much better lately. I've been in such a good mood, and its being reflected in my poetry. The angst is gone, and my poetry is actually getting into a much lighter mood.

My question is this. What sort of poetry do ya'll read, if any, and who is your favorite poet?

The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe

"Quoth the Raven nevermore"

Oh so good.

I don't care who you vote for

Just don't vote for the guy who likes war, destruction and earning money over earning respect.

I very much enjoy Poe, Dickenson, Tennyson, Byron, and so many others that I could never name them all.

John Donne is my favourite poet and Air and Angels and Death Be Not Proud are my favourite poems.

I love my friend Jen's poetry as well, her work is so dark yet full of hope which is her own take on the world.

Sylvia Plath (oh the obviousness) and Christina Rossetti. Both amazing poets.

And any of the Romantics, but particularly early Shelley, and "The Revolt of Islam".

What a wonderful miracle if only we could look through each other's eyes for an instant.

De boyds perhaps are on de wing...
No dats absoyd,
De wing is on de boyd!

(Sorry for that one - but its still one of my favourite poems, along with the Jabberwocky, and a lot of other things by Lear, Belloc and other nonsense authors.

Yes, I do like 'serious' poetry (and 'The Raven' does rank highly amongst my favourites), especially a lot of First World War stuff from the trenches. But generally, I think of poems like songs, they serve to make me laugh, and carry me to a happy place, and although there is a place for melancholy poetry (and music), laughing is always the best way to go... ubblol

Keep up the happy poetry! Fancy letting us read some of it? smile

YARR! Thats replaced the whale in my nightmares!
