Happily announcing the details for the (definitely kickass) Belfast Juggling Convention/Irish Unicyling tournament...
This amazing event will take place from Friday February 19 until Sunday February 21 in the beautiful city of Belfast. Don’t miss it!!
We have a hugely massive hall, great lineup of tutors and performers, brilliant venue for the shows - along with lots of other little treats along the way.
Here's what you need to know:
What's happening:
Friday 19th: 12noon-6pm: Registration and games in PEC - beside Botannic Gardens. Hall closes... everyone heads to the Mandela Hall (in Queen's Student Union complex, opposite Queen’s) for the Gala show. 8-10pm: Gala Show - featuring our amazing performers (including Durbs (ohhh), Hillas and Flora (ahhhh) and the amazing Matt Hennem (going wild and crazy!)! 10pm-1am: DJ and bands (Katie and the Carnival and the Jahm Band – whoop!).
Saturday 20th: 10am: PEC opens with Stretching/warming up with the lovely Anita (contortionist with the Belfast circus). Don't miss this great way to start Saturday! 10.30am-1pm: First Irish unicycling basketball tournament (hosted by Marcus Collins). Teams of 5 play off against one another until we find the best Irish unicycling team! Get your name registered asap, and get practicing (really, you should. This is super hard)!
For those who aren't taking part in the unicycling tournament, it will only take up half the hall so there will be plenty of room for playing
1.30pm: Workshops start... Including contact juggling (Matt Hennem), juggling (Ture), acro (Cormac and Cian), poi (Durbs), staff (Eimhin) and clowning (Hugh Brown) among loads more... More details to come when we get the timetable finished.
Also this Friday and Saturday, and running separately from the convention, the gorgeous Flora is hosting a very specialised aerial course with the incredible Lindsey Butcher. This course is for a limited number of people and will cost £70, but we can organise a good price for those who want to do that course as well as attend the convention shows. Please bear in mind this course is for experienced aerialists/gymnasts and not suitable for beginners. (anyone who wants further information on this… please contact Flora at: circusboneidle@yahoo.co.uk)
6pm: Hall closes and we head outside for the fire show... which will run for half an hour and feature performers from FirePoise fire performance group (anyone else who wants to take part in this show – contact me asap!)
8pm: It's back to the amazing Mandela Hall for drinking... and maybe even a bit of renegade madness We'll also be having two more fantastic bands and DJs... it's going to be great
Sunday 21st: It's a late start today, with some gentle stretching from Anita from 12-12.30pm in the PEC.
We only have the hall until 3pm, but in that time we will have some games (with prizes from Beard and others) - and just after 2pm we're hosting a fantastic drum circle with the lovely Joe Loughlin from Gathering Drum - to make sure everyone is leaving on a high.
It's a packed schedule, but we know you will love it!!!
Payment:
We have decided to charge £25 (or 25 Euro) for the whole weekend - bargain! So for this super cheap price, we're hoping it will bring as many of you as possible... from all across the UK and Ireland. You'd be really welcome
Pre-reg is really important to make sure everything goes smoothly... please let us know as soon as possible if you are coming.
If you live in Northern Ireland, or can pay us in any other way, we'd very much appreciate getting the money in advance... we're not setting up a paypal account though.
Accomodation:
We have searched the hostels of Belfast to find you the two best (most homely and best value for money!)
Arnie has offered us a great deal - just £10 per night, per person – for 20 people. This deal is only available if someone gets in contact with him (preferably by email) before or on Wednesday the 20th Jan (3 days from now!) and quotes Belfast Juggling Convention. It is a bargain not to be missed by 20 lucky people. (Payments must be made in cash on arrival)
Paddy’s Palace - 68 Lisburn Road, Belfast (On corner with Fitzwilliam) (0044) 2890 333 367 E-mail: belfast@paddywagontours.com, Web: https://www.paddyspalace.com/belfasthostel.php This is a more hostely hostel! The hostel can sleep 60-70 people. We were quoted £12.50 per night, per person – which includes a cereal and toast breakfast. However, this is for 20 people booking together and a deposit must be paid by credit card. If more than 20 people book in one go, this price may be further negotiable. Rooms sleep 2, 4, 6 or 8 people.
Book soon!!
Transport:
By car: This google map will show the PEC/Mandela Hall and the two hostels: Car map
Train & Bus: The train and bus from Dublin will take you to Great Victoria St station (Europa Bus Station)… which isn’t a huge walk up to the Queen’s area (and your hostel). Check out the map… Train and bus
Flights: Flights into Belfast are fairly cheap… especially with deals from Easyjet, Ryanair, Bmibaby and Aer Lingus. You’d be best flying into the city airport… but if you are coming in by plane… please let one of the organizers know, and we’ll try to arrange airport collection.
I think that’s all for now!!!
But no doubt I’ll be posting more stuff up as we get the details sorted.
Sorry again for the late notice – but as you can see, we’ve been putting in LOTS of work to make sure this is a convention to remember
Best wishes Clare (show organiser), Cormac (convention organiser) and Marty (QUB Juggling Club president)
